Our greatest Rutgers basketball moment in the last 20 plus years ! The day we didn't get selected to the tournament , but hey at least we were in the conversation . This was the last time we entered selection Sunday with a chance to get into the tournament . If I recall correctly , the team stumbled down the stretch and won a BET game against Pitt . But couldn't get the second BET win and basically everything that could go wrong for us in the other confernce tournaments did .
I believe the team got together to watch at the hale center and we were shown on CBS disappointed , the highlight of our last 20 years !

Damn. I was a senior in HS then. And as far as anything that could go wrong going wrong, well that's just par for the course with Rutgers.

The team was 9-5 and 17-7 with four games to go and ran out of gas

Played at Uconn and gave then all that could (Uconn won it all and Was 1 or 2 at the time) with 5 or 6 minutes to go

Lost to seton hall and Georgetown in close game...

Lost to a Top 15 Miami team in a very close game

Did beat Pitt in the 6-11 game

Lost to top 10 St. John's in a game where we lead with 14 minutes to go. Rashod Kent was hurt and did not play and.we really got worn down inside on that night

With a 40 rpi and 10-10 in the big east (18-12), I still thought we were in. They looked more at finishes back then than now

7 of our 12 losses were to teams that were 1,2 or 3 seeds.

We beat most of the teams we should have but did not have a lot of wins against the teams in the field.

The SHU and gtown losses did it. Win one and we were in

2003-2004, we could have won any of our last few games and been likely to make the tournament. Losing to Va Tech in the first round of the Big East Tourney killed any hopes.

I must be getting old, wasn't that the same season as Billets runner in the BET to beat GTown?

ejgonz - that runner was in March 1998. I was a freshman that year and was at the Garden with the Pep Band. I thought for sure that Bannon was going to get it done.

I remember watching the Selection Show at the RAC where the Athletic Dept set up a viewing party for the women's team in March 1999... that was when the men's selections were made immediately following the women's. For whatever reason the TV connection in the RAC was spotty and the feed went out briefly... but those there saw that clip of the men's team waiting to see if RU's name would be called. We're still waiting.

Earl Johnson's dunk that tied the score or gave us the lead (can't quite remember) with about 4 minutes left in the Georgetown game... one of the loudest moments in RAC history. We folded down the stretch, though, and the Hoyas beat us on Senior Night. One of the most disappointing losses in RAC history. A win and we would definitely have been dancing.

Any chance of dancing was squashed when Lamar Odom's last second shot beat Temple. URI stole our spot.

Atmosphere at the Georgetown game at the RAC was eerily familiar to the TTFP game at the stadium 2 years ago, especially the loser stroll heading out and back home.

ejgonz- This is false. No way that runner was in '98. That runner was in the '95-'96 season, Geoff's (and my) frosh year, and our first year in the Big East. We beat G'Town and then I believe won again (I forget who against) before losing in the semifinals of the BET (we made the final four, woot) to I believe WVU. But I could be wrong on WVU... too tired right now to Google it.

Wow, what am I smoking? So it was Geoff's SENIOR year, not freshman year? OK. I was 100% wrong and stand corrected. Wow.

It was his junior year. The follow year was Geoff's senior year and the one everyone is talking about. I was a sophomore.

the cameras should not have been there that day, RU was a big longshot to get in and the wrong side of the bubble

Well, I am glad they were . It was the highest Rutgers hoops moment in years. . Something we can always remember from that special season .
