Semi-OT PSU receives QB commit and has #1 recruiting class for 2018

as much as I dislike state penn gotta give Franklin some props. He got a good OC in ,running his type of offense and his team is on a huge roll. He recruits awesome and now with a good OC hes killing it in recruiting and on the field.Guy is a slimly type individual but hes getting the job done.

Good for them.

Just goes to show how quickly a program can overcome poor recruiting and an image problem with the right blend of personnel, proper funding, and a bit of luck.

If they can do it, so can we.

It helps when you have a 100,000 seat stadium and lots of football donation money. With being a full member of the B10 they are making a lot more per year from the conference then we are so they have a self sufficient athletic dept.

Like I said, good for PSU.

The fact that other programs have much more money & prestige doesn't dissuade me from thinking we have enough right here to get to that level in the next 10 years.

All the money in the world doesn't get you the recruiting ground we're smack dab in the middle of.

We're sitting on a gold mine.

We just need the right guy to come in here and extract it.

Despite the poor field results (I'll give him a mulligan) I like Ash's prospects.

Penn State was a well established program prior to the scandal, apples and oranges.

Penn State's class of 2018 has a chance to be very good. I'm expecting a top-10 class, but with likely only 20 scholarships available, give or take, it doesn't really have a legitimate shot at finishing No. 1.

Congrats to them but is it really necessary to post it here? Next time just go to the PSU board and high five everyone there

Really. WTF with all of the threads praising and gushing over Penn State's successes. Does the OP bring home pictures of hotter men/women to the spouse to show how others have it better? F Penn State!

Because we see the success other teams in the conference are having, and we want it too. But we seem to be losing ground. Right now it looks as if we're relegated to competing for 4th in the East alone. And that's assuming MSU doesn't return to form in the next year or two, and Maryland seems to be recruiting damn well right now.

Oh and by the way, those other teams will be making ~$50M/year from TV revenue, while we're getting ~$11M until 2020-21.

Whatever. No need to broadcast here on a RUTGERS recruiting/football board.

We all know that. But 4th in the East could be 5th in the Big Ten.

As soon as somone would post anything positive about our 2017 rankings, there would be instaneous post correcting the ranking, it does not matter until signing day, it is only because we have more commits.

It is early for 2018 still and I doubt PSU stays at #1 after the big boys (Bama, Ohio St, Michigan, and Texas) start getting commitments. Also, in early recruiting rankings Rutgers has fared well with lots of early verbals. 14 months is a long time until signing day.

Normally I'd be bummed by Pedd St. getting such a solid commit. But I keep recalling the "commit" of the St. Peter's qb...Wimbush. Here's hoping this one is just as solid when Notre Dame comes calling.

Your overall point - that Signing Day for the 2018 cycle is far in the future - is absolutely correct. But Notre Dame already has a QB in that class, a PA kid actually. Fields already has offers from a lot of big schools, including in-state Georgia. The offer that would frighten me at this point would be one from Clemson. Long way to go. This kid looks tailor-made for the PSU offense, so hopefully he sticks.

Or 8th if you include Iowa, Wisconsin, and Nebraska.

Every year is different.

RECRUITING, RECRUITING, RECRUITING! will predict where this is heading:

Today we are ranked 7th in the Big ten.

Iowa is 10th
Wisconsin is 9th
Nebraska is 5th

PSU should hold on to this kid for at least a year. If next year's PSU team goes 6-6 while Clemson and a few others are top 15 caliber then he may flip. Considering he is a GA kid I am not worried. Better they take a GA kid then a NY, NJ, PA, DE kid of similar caliber.

Notre Dame already has Jurkovec so they aren't a threat. The problem is UGA. Their top guy is Lawrence but Clemson feels they are in the driver's seat for him. Either way, one of those teams are going to need a QB and one of them is going to miss on Lawrence and probably look to Fields. Whatever. I'll take it for now.

Fields offer to UGA isn't commitable until Lawrence decides.

Recruit until you puke. You absolutely nailed it.

BTW, Parsons certainly isn't a lock and ND guys (of course) say that Kuntz is far from a done deal. At this point I'm pretty sure we have five commits and all our R250 with three being R100. Can't believe I'm saying this but if I was a HS QB I'd be drooling over the opportunity to play in PSU's offense with the OL we are going to have for the 4-5 years.

If PSU loses a commit where do you think they will go to replace him?

Fark Penn State. Fark them for treating us like 2nd class citizens from
The 70s to the 90s and selling us a false hope with their eastern 8 conference. And fark them for being able to recover from a heinous scandal with only a few down years, acting like they never did anything wrong. I can't wait to finally beat them again. And again. And again.

Wasn't Franklin on the "hot seat" coming into this year? Maybe I'm mistaken.

yes ,there is a ways to go till LOI day but right now the measuring stick is the average rating per recruit that is important, not a ranking based upon how many Recruits you have verbaled to this point.

Did I say that anywhere in my post? I was comparing Rutgers to the rest of the B1G. Not sure what the AAC has to do with it.

I'm just assuming that you were not happy with the $11m we're getting compared other BIG teams...why quote the disparity if you were not bitching about it.
Why the AAC?...that's where we'd be if we weren't in the BIG.
