Serious question; Does the rise of Simpson hurt our chances with Harper?

Or is Dylan more of a 2 guard?

The potential of them both in the backcourt starting for a couple 3 years had me excited.

I think they may be interchangeable??

I sincerely hope a Top 5 player in the country isn’t concerned about anyone

Why do you think top players continuously go to top schools that already have highly capable players at their positions

If anything, it gives him confidence in Pikiell and his ability to identify talent and coach

Lastly, it was one one game for Simpson. People need to chill

Simpson will be a junior by the time Dylan Harper arrives as a freshman. Ideally, you would have a game ready veteran junior, a rising sophomore in Gavin Griffiths and then Harper mixed in as a 3 guard lineup terrorizing teams from the perimeter.

I can't see that affecting him at all - they can both play at the same time. If another great player doesn't come because of potential competition (which I don't even think is the case here) then he really doesnt have the right mindset to begin with.

Just a thought. No need to bash. I know that when kids look at schools they at PT and who’s already at their position, yes talent begets talent, obviously

I think it’s a good question. Guys with Harper’s hype and rank often have ‘1 and done’ hopes, and there’s only one ball. Position doesn’t matter.

We just don’t know. However, it’s obviously a positive thing that he comes to some games.

Doesn’t seem to hurt Kentucky Duke Kansas every year that bring in multiple top 50 players. Yes there is only one ball. But what helps people with aspirations of playing at the next level? Playing and practicing with people of equal or better talent. These kids have been playing or trying to play for the best aau team best camp etc… for years. Talent begets talent. I would be more worried there wasn’t enough talent than having too much.

For sure it would be great for us. I didn’t say otherwise. Only said it may matter to a kid who hopes to only play a year in college if there’s a star player at the same position or role already ahead of him.

Only at Rutgers do people worry about talent being a deterrent to attracting recruits.
^this^

Ridiculously stupid and clueless OP

The kid is considering Duke, etc . You think he’s afraid of competing for playing time?!?

As someone else said above - if anything, the only thing preventing him from coming to RU is a LACK of talent!! If Simpson emerges that can ONLY HELP

Truly - shaking my head

Okay I interpreted

“I think it’s a good question. Guys with Harper’s hype and rank often have ‘1 and done’ hopes, and there’s only one ball. Position doesn’t matter.”

To mean Dylan would be fearful of not being able to produce the numbers. They do not play the same position nor do they have a similar game. They would be very complementary of each other. And with the offense being a 3-4 man out guard heavy offense i don’t think it could or would be a problem. And there will be more than enough touches to go around.

Ridiculous question

If Dylan is scared of Simpson then he 100% isn't going to Duke

He also should consider Europe over the NBA so he doesn't have to compete for minutes

Not scared…but with the (perhaps false) impression that he may want to be a 1 and done player it does matter a lot who’s already here. That’s all I’m saying. Have no idea what his NBA timeline is.

There is no such thing as a dumb question (I'm told); and let's be nice - considering the team just stomped on the former #10; but to answer the question; hopefully this very young, fast, intelligent and (already) fearless player - will help us recruit the best players, like Dylan over the next two years.

Yeah it hurts our chances … Dylan only wants teammates that suck so he gets all the praise… that’s the ticket! 😬🙄

I think Simpson’s play will attract recruits and you see that teams need depth at every position.

They will be the RU TRIO. The best act on the East Coast. RU will run three guards, a power forward who can stretch the floor and a rim protector center.
