I can confirm that Rutgers Football had several portal entries this morning.

WR Deondre Johnson
OT Mozell Williams
OT/DT Jasire Peterson
DE David Onuoha
DE Tyclen Luman
DE Tycoolhill Luman
DT Aaris Bethea

I don't remember the exact stats but have seen tweets where USC lost all but 1 or 2 players from one class in Riley's tenure. Same for A&M, from one of Fisher's highly rated classes. It happens and can happen to anyone. You're going to lose players and you're going to get players, that's just the way it is.

How mNy we're on the two deep or expected to be there next year?
It is importsnt to keep OL, they never (rarely) contribute in years 1-2.

That being said if 2024 OL are leaving (Peterson), they’re not a fit. But that’s still a problem. We have lost a ton of OL pipeline depth the last few seasons due to multiple factors.

Zero. But to release true freshman after only one semester is cold. NFL like attrition has come to college football. More than ever it’s a business

Al should pay for construction of a miniature Fieldhouse and make recruiting videos with it, since we’ve seen his unrivaled video making talents.

Think Spinal Tap’s Stonehenge, but 100x better.
Actually, I thought Spinal Tap’s Stonehenge was perfect. Otherwise, I support this idea. Make it so, Al.

We had 24 OL on th roster this yewr and bring most back. We also are bringing in a ton of OL.

College sports always take kids in and spit kids out.
Sure, But Never this fast, as far as I can remember. Now, Kids either have to produce or show enough potential to produce, right away. If not, out to the waiver wire. (Transfer Portal). This is going to take some getting used to.

They brought it on themselves, didn't they by clamoring for NIL. Now the pool will get smaller for HS kids if JUCO years don't count against eligibility.

Those kids showed up on campus and realized that sneaky ole Schiano brought them all the way out to the KST beautiful fieldhouse and told them it was ours.

Sounds reasonable to me. If we’re at the point of everybody wanting to be paid, they better be showing potential to produce.

Exactly.
It's like when a volunteer group turns paid, and the people who were kept around because they were volunteers are asked to produce or get fired because in life, nobody should get paid to not produce and contribute worth to the organization.

That’s going to have to be trimmed down to 105 for next year. That’s another thing to take into account in this transition year when you see rosters trim down.

I think most teams will have 75-90 scholarship players and I guess the rest walk ons up to 105.

If their Rivals listings are correct, Johnson, Williams and Onuoha did not have any other P5 offers. Wonder what happened with the Luman brothers.
And Bethea? IIRC he was considered a very good signing out of HS. Haven’t heard his name much since.

Currently, 22 on the roster, including Seniors: Salami, Pierce, Sutton, Felter, Rhodes, Gbagbe-Sowah, Zilinskas, Needham

IIRC, Felter is back, not sure about the other seniors.

Not really.
How many coaches get hired and aren’t expected to show potential immediately?
“It’s a multi year rebuild.”

I'm pretty sure these guys were all passed on the depth chart and were very unlikely to ever see the field.
I'm disappointed in Hudson county's Peterson, as I thought he had a real chance to contribute here.
Also, if I'm remembering correctly, Johnson is 6'8", but couldn't catch the ball. And I thought Bethea at 6'2" and 255 lbs. was too small when we signed him.
Just look at the 2025 class and you'll figure out why these guys are moving on.

6 scholarship kids gone in one swoop. 3 from class of 2023 and 3 from class of 2024. Our attrition is too high. Now we have to fix our mistakes through the portal, mostly recruiting lower division kids.
Stop
This is a business
Greg is treating it like a business

The kids weren’t cutting it here
Bring in new ones that will

Let’s put our feelings to the side and start winning some games

Agreed. Better to have players move on early versus late. Need room for portal transfers.

Roster management will be imperative. Need the roster to 85-90% 3rd-5th year players. That have a chance of seeing the field. The days of 3rd year players not having any game time action specifically in skill positions are over.

You know this exactly how ? You have no clue who the 2 deep are for next season. Especially on the DL where we will have many holes to fill. The departures of DT Peterson and Bethea ( highly recruited) and the Luman brothers on the DL are concerning.

prior to NIL/transfer portals - Greg used to be pretty good to honor his promise of 4 years if you stay out of trouble and work hard...even if you don't see the field.

I wonder if new rules have changed that.

I think "the talk" is much easier now: Son, we'd love you to stay but don't have any of that NIL cheese for you...

It has to have. No room for dead weight on the roster anymore. Can’t wait for 3-4 years to develop when you can bring in a 3rd year with 1-2 years experience.

They ain't getting any NIL if they are dropping down.

What I wish for each year is a max 1 player that transfers and goes P4 for NIL. The others that other P4 want, stay.
Kids that have shown upside in year 1 & 2 to stick around.
Bring in the lower level kids that were game changers and obvious men playing against boys - maybe a player or two at a P4 that is 2 deep but their current team has an NFL guy in front of him
Keep recruiting going strong

Most of these kids, if not all will not be going to P4 schools. That's not attrition, rather thinning out the herd.
