It'll be interesting to see what kind of coverage this incident gets.

"Two TCU football players were arrested Monday afternoon on robbery charges.

According to NBCDFW.com, senior defensive end Mike Tuaua and freshman wide receiver Andre Petties-Wilson are both accused of assaulting and robbing three male students on Friday Sept. 4 and are charged with "felony complaint of robbery and bodily injury.

The alleged victims told police they were “beaten outside a party” and the attackers stole their case of Keystone Light beer."

I cited this in the doomsday thread. Not only that, do you know a couple years ago that there was a drug ring bust on campus and a handful of football players were caught up in it. How many even know or remember that? Both these incidents sound familiar? It's not good, it sucks, it's embarrassing for whichever school has these things happen.

My point has always been we have problems, other schools have problems. We all do and for the most part no better or worse. It's not good but you take measures so hopefully they don't get repeated. Even then things can always happen. It's not the end of the world. We deal with it and move on. Problems continuously arise in life, we know this, you deal with them and move foward. Did TCU fall of the face of the planet, not judging by last year.

This will be yet another opportunity to take jabs at RU. Now, every TCU article will probably reference the RU incidents - the double-whammy.

Rutgersguy1 you are right on the money, there are issues here, there are issues everywhere and we would all like them to be somewhere else but unfortunately nobody is immune from people doing stupid and occasionally very destructive and or illegal things. The key is to not overreact or underreact take in the facts make the adjustments you need to make and move forward.

If they have a few more guys arrested for assaulting a fellow student, the team captain and starting QB suspended for breaking team rules, the head coach investigated for breaking rules, and one of there all-Americans arrested for assaulting a female all within the next 10-14 days. Then yeah, I'm sure ESPN and alot of other outlets will be talking about it.

No, this kind of thing doesn't happen everywhere. It happens at places where character is a lesser consideration. It happens where football success outweighs academic success and integrity.

At a lot of places for sure, maybe even most places, but not all places. This will not happen at Duke, Stanford and Northwestern for example...or the academies obviously, where real classroom competence and real character matter, not phony rhetoric from coaches and blind faith from fans.

A quick google search reveals that the TCU coach clearly knew about the criminal activity of these 2 and possibly a third player (described as being "muscular") but waited until the arrests before suspending, not dismissing, the 2 arrested. The players apparently are claiming that happened on the scene afterwards but the incident may be on video according to police. Does anyone think that if RU was involved the video would not be viral by now.

The third ranked team will not be scrutinized like us.

"Arrests of football players are nothing new at TCU in recent years.

  • April 2014 — Wide receiver Brandon Carter was arrested for possession of marijuana after officers said they found less than two ounces of it in a Lexus he was driving. The charge was later dismissed, court records show.
  • February 2014 — Wide receiver LaDarius Brown was dismissed from the team after he also was arrested for possessing marijuana. Brown was fined $651 and sentenced to six months of probation, court records show.
  • February 2012 — Four players were among 18 students arrested in an undercover drug sting and kicked off the team. The case resulted in minor fines or probation.
  • October 2012 — Starting quarterback Casey Pachall was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was suspended from the team and entered an inpatient treatment facility. He later returned to the team. He was sentenced to one year of probation and fined $1,240, court records show."
The DWI QB previously flunked a drug test but was not suspended from the team. And TCU instructed fraternity, sorority members, members, staff and academic advisors to make no comment to the media after the drug rings were exposed and people arrested. Imagine what the SL would say if RU did something like that,

In 2011, NBC reported that TCU was the only one of 2 top 25 college team without a player with a criminal record. So even squeaky clean programs can and do have issues. That NBC investigation revealed that Iowa was a co-leader with 18 while PSU had 16. So even our brethren can have issues, but where was the media rage over Iowa's issues, for example?

NOBODY CARES...TCU wins. Rutgers is not supposed to have any arrests, let alone 7 an Rutgers loses.

I hope we don't stoop to the level of posting every arrest in college football and saying "see, it's not just Rutgers." We held ourselves to be above the football factories that recruit low character people just to win games, and have fallen short of that. Hopefully we don't see many more posts about arrests here*, not just from other schools but most importantly of all, from Rutgers.

*with the exception of PSU - they're fair game

That's not the point I'm trying to make. This is more me being curious as to how different, if at all, the coverage/reporting might be.

I'm guessing this won't be an issue. TCU likely has good PR people who won't allow themselves to be controlled by the press.

RU is a victim I this area because it allows itself to be.

Fire the cheerleaders! Fire the food-service workers! Fire the custodial staff!

USA Today's Headline Today? "
How many losses can the TCU defense withstand?

What does the story discuss? How many players they lost to graduation. Buried in the middle of the story is: " The latest development came Monday night when senior defensive end Mike Tuaua (along with a freshman receiver) was charged with robbery with bodily injury after being accused of attacking a student and stealing a case of Keystone Light beer, leaving his status in doubt."

The rest of the story is about how great their defense was and how Gary Patterson is a defensive genius. Can we hire him?

Meanwhile, USA Today's Front Page of Sports has this Headline:
