the first thing out of her mouth was, "we got that guy reffing tonight?...no way we win!".... and me, who usually watches the details of a game more closely, did not notice that guy being a problem in the past..... as the game unfolded, it certainly looked like this guy was working against us 90% of the time.....

I've heard from about 2 other people say the same thing to me after the game.

Hate to blame refs but there’s something very fishy about that guy? I haven’t seen Corey more frustrated than last night. I can not believe his ability to keep his composure.

My girlfriend came to the game with me last week. She makes the best comments, and they are so simple.

I think woman sometimes are perplexed at the complexity at which we call the game. It is a very simple sport. Lol

Funny but true about wife observations on sports sometimes.

On a 3rd and 1, I recall once Rutgers running up the middle out of an I-formation for no gain. Truth be told, it was the right call given the field position, score, etc., by my wife says "well, that was dumb - that's were all of the defenders where - let's run there", lol.

which ref was it?

The team that played better won the game.

Agree. Refs were not why Rutgers lost.

And while there seemed to be a lot of questionable calls last night, fans aren't always objective when it comes to the call either. One of the funnier ref interactions was during last week's Iowa game, where Geo and an Iowa player were scrambling for a ball that ended up going out on the sideline. The ref called it out on Geo. Someone a few rows up yells out, "Ref, you got the call wrong." The ref looks up to the stands and yells back, "I got it wrong?" The ref then pointed to a Rutgers fan sitting in a floor seat next to where the ball went out, and continued responding, "Ask this guy, he'll tell you I'm right." Sure enough, when I got home and watched the replay on TV, the ref was right; the ball was out on Geo.

Have to disagree. The ball out of bounds calls will always be back and forth. The calls in question are the subjective ones. The calling of a random illegal screen. Was it called rest of the game? The not calling the body blows to Corey every time he drives that other teams get. The anticipating a call or contact because it’s Rutgers and it doesn’t happen. We get we are the newbies and we aren’t getting the calls. But now we are in these games and we are not ever getting the benefit and even worse, are often getting the short end of the stick. As we are offensively challenged our margin for error is far less. The mantra that the refs are not the reason why we lose is more than a bit false. Refs are certainly contributing to RU’s losses more than other teams.

That solves it ;) I wasnt at the game nor did i see a replay. I guess I can atleast cross Tim Higgins off the list.

Just busting chops. Anyone watching the game would know. I don’t know his name

I figured. I tried looking up the 3 ref names in the box score and feel like I've had similar thoughts about 1 of them, haha. Maybe its the same guy...
I often went into the games with the notion of if I didnt recognize the refs at all I felt better...because all the usuals put us at a disadvantage---tim higgins, john cahill, jim Burr

I don't think refs have it in for anyone and they weren't the reason Nebraska won.

Awful call right in front of me when Copeland got called for an Offensive Foul.

Thiam was moving and Copeland didn't dip his shoulder.

Stuff evens out-----2 point game and Watson beats Sanders on a stop and go

Sanders comes down and gets an offensive foul----next trip Sa misses a front end. That's where the game was lost.

Give me a break. You point out the 1 questionable call all night that went in our favor and it was Eugene not Issa that got the charge call. If you watched the game live, I initially thought. There were 7-10 bad calls against us. Then after I posted 3 more calls were brought up. For you to think 10-13 went against us and is the not a reason Nebraska won , is sticking your head in the sand. If we get the calls, and a number of them ended up giving Nebraska the ball a second or third time on a possession that they eventually converted, then the score is likely we are up 5-10 and that last plays you mention are irrelevant . That was the worst whistle in our entire time in the Big 10.

Two terrible calls on out of bounds on the baseline on NE end. Ball was at least a foot in bounds both times. One went out way, second theirs

You guys let your wives watch sports? Very generous!

my wife usually wants to get the football tailgate started at an earlier time than I do..... some wives love the games, be it fb or bb, and the stuff that goes with it.

The young ref had it out for Rutgers and has for the past few seasons. I made the same comment to others im my section prior to the game and true to course as I predicted the rogue ref made his mark wit the Corey charge and other smelly calls. Pikiell rarely gets teed up should against this clown rogue ref

It sounds like the ghost of Higgins... maybe he had a son...one way to stop bad calls is beat your opponent senseless...

2 calls where Eugene got charges were ridiculously in our favor.
The first offensive play of the game for Nebraska told me how this game was going to go. The Nebraska ball handler was near the top of the key, reached out his left hand to the chest of our defender and pushed him back. Then shot and made a two. Unbelievably, none of the refs called it. I had no problem with two of the refs, but one saw no wrongs by Nebraska versus many by us. We just have to play well enough that a bad call here or there will not make the difference in the game.

That being said, we lost for many reasons, but one of the most glaring was that when we had a chance to tie the game or get with two or so, we had our ball handler stripped of the ball. And (I know, not proper to begin a sentence with and), the ball handler who was stripped wasn't Jake or Souf or Bullock. It was Cory twice and Freeman once.

The calls you are talking about were not charge calls. You don't have to have your feet set to draw a "player control foul." If the offensive player initiates hard contact outside the frame of his body, regardless of whether the defender is moving, it is a foul.

except in this case, I think my wife called it, and instead of her being perplexed, she seems like she was informed

.....she said this guy had a bias against RU, then he seemed to go out there and prove it.

at the very least, this ref makes his presence known at the game, when the other refs did not seem to make the big controversial calls.

we can say we would have lost anyway, fine, but you definitely knew he was injecting himself into the game

Interesting. Make up calls are very much a real thing in sports, and the refs know when they have to make one.

One of them happened right in front of me and Eugene was half out of bounds on the baseline and moved in late. We laughed in shock.

Well if he was out of bounds then sure, I was at the game but don't recall the play
