I see he is pre-season ranked 3rd. Who is better? PRetty sure he beat last years NC during the season pretty bad before his injury.

Plz just have Suriano and Tomasello on opposite brackets. He's the only one this year that Suriano might lose to imo.

Too lazy too look this up, what team is Tomasello on? Thanks

His competition will be NATO-Ohio state
Lizak- Minnesota
Cruz- Lehigh
Piccininni- ok st
Mueller -UVA
The only one you can say has an edge at this point is Nato because of accomplishments.

He beat Cruz in December of 2016 by the score of 7-0. He is ranked behind the last two national champs, which is reasonable to start the season. That may change during the season depending upon results as NS would probably be favored in every match.

I would assume Nato and last years champ, Cruz from Lehigh. 3 sounds correct, actually. It would be sort of BS to not rank the guy who won the title ahead to start the season.
Pretty good assessment, OC. The Suriano/Cruz match happened on December 4, very early in the season, and Darian won the NC. Most pre-season rankings are going to give the edge to the NC, despite the early season loss. And, yes, Nick's win was never in doubt, even without the NF4. I think if they had met later in the season, the score would have been even higher, as all of the scoring took place in the second period, and Nick went defensive in the 3rd. As a freshman, wrestling in front of your first Bryce Jordan crowd, I think you take the 7-0 and walk away, just as he did.

can Nato really cut the weight down to 125lb and compete effectively?

I would guess you will see him only make 125 a few times during the regular season. Ohio State has been known to put back ups in for duals, last year Kyle Snyder wrestled 9 matches before the BIG10 tournament. I don't think you will see Nato wrestle Friday and Sunday matches this season and him given whole weekends off from making weight.

The Big 10 Tourney finals should be fun w
125 - Suriano vs NATO
141- Ashnault vs McKenna

Semis should see:
165 - Lewis vs Joseph or Massa.

assuming all stay at these weights

For this reason, Suriano will beat Nato. If the weight cut is taxing, it'll go against the wrestler. I feel his (Nato) weight cut will slow him down in matches.

Pagano is ranked #14 at 174 for RU FYI. Flo is coming out with one ranking a day up to Heavy. My guess is Gravina will be around #5 or #6 at 184 to start tomorrow.

I'll take a stab at top 7.

Interesting ! I haven't read that. Makes Ashnault's path to another Big10 title a lot easier.

Yes and as previously mentioned the kid from Princeton is moving up as well. Still a deep weight class at 141 and Dean Heil hasn't lost in the NCAA tournament in quite a long time.

Thanks, good to know about Kolodzik, a talented wrestler. I was talking about the Big 10 Tourny wrestlers, but no biggie, all wrestling conversation is good.

I thought I read a couple of guys were wrestling off at 141 and 149 for Ohio State. Winner goes one place, loser goes the other.

That could be the case(although I have a feeling the coaching staff will "convince" the wrestlers what weight to go without a wrestle off). If they do wrestle off, McKenna would be favored and he wants to go 141 so I expect to see him at 41, Hayes at 149.
