@rydunleavy: No changes to #RFootball depth chart this week. So Goodwin at RB, Jones at SLB, etc. #Rutgers #B1G

@rydunleavy: Ash reminds us that he has coached here as a visitor and thought highly of #RFootball gameday environment #Rutgers #B1G

@rydunleavy: Ash won't make any comments on injuries unless it's a big-picture thing #RFootball #Rutgers

@rydunleavy: Ash said #Rutgers did a better job after Q1. Caught off guard by how fast #UWHUskies are, especially John Ross.

@JPPelzman: Ash said there was no quit in his team Saturday. Guys were still excited on the sideline and wanted to be coached

@rydunleavy: Ash said WR Ahmir Mitchell is coming to #RFootball. Not fair to say he's taking a risk. They did their homework. #Rutgers

@KSargeantNJ: Ash offers a vote of confidence for Laviano, saying he is the starter. Also says he needs to protect the ball better. #rutgers

@rydunleavy: Ash is going to continue the Scarlet Walk tradition. May add a couple new wrinkles later this week

@rydunleavy: Ash said his evaluation of QB Chris Laviano did not change at all after watching film. #Rutgers

@rydunleavy: Mehringer said Laviano has to do a better job of protecting the ball. He didn't grade out poorly in terms of his reads. #Rutgers

@rydunleavy: Mehringer: Josh Hicks has warranted some more carries. See how each week plays out. Goodwin is still "our guy" going into the game. #Rutgers

@rydunleavy: Mehringer said his Twitter feed got hit by the fans on throwing more deep balls "quite a bit." #Rutgers

@KSargeantNJ: Mehringer says Goodwin still No. 1 RB. Hasn't done anything to give up position yet. Concedes Josh Hicks may see bigger role. #rutgers

@rydunleavy: Mehringer said he will treat Howard as if he is playing the Green Bay Packers this week.

@JPPelzman: Mehringer wants to line up Janarion Grant in even more places before the snap to give him more chances to get the ball

@rydunleavy: Mehringer: Are our QBs going to be a 15-20 run attempt a game quarterback? Probably not. 5-7 designed runs per game. #Rutgers

@rydunleavy: Interesting fact: With Janarion Grant, that was Mehringer's first time being involved in an in-depth wildcat package. #Rutgers

@rydunleavy: Niemann: Kiy Hester played "fabulous" considering he missed some training camp due to injury. #Rutgers

@JPPelzman: DC Jay Niemann: Darius Hamilton played at a 'championship level' Saturday. Liked the way he handled double-teams

Did I miss something? These tweets make it sound as if we won. Granted the defense was very good after the first qtr but still.....!

@RutgersFans - can't throw deep balls if you DON'T have the guys up front to block long enough OR the horses to get down the field and catch them #WeDon't #NextYear #DeepIsGood

Unless they start the Scarlet Walk at the cricle, don't bother

There are number of things I agree with you on NUTS especially last season... we want the same things for Rutgers of that I'm certain...it's a message board which unfortunately leads to disagreement or perceptions...I think Ash is going to do well...we will suffer some more but I hope less as the season goes on...the key is recruiting
... we need to show New Jersey's recruits there has been improvement ....Washington ( as you said ) was going to be a very tough opponent...with Peterson as coach...California speed to burn...a QB who actually can ... throw and move around...toss in a defense which held opponents to 18.8 ppg big ,nasty up front and a experienced secondary...after my wife saw Ross blowing by our DB's she simply said , " this is going to be a long day for Rutgers".... anyway ...I appreciate the reply...here's to a improving team and season.

Things that should happen early.....deep ball and designed QB run. Start making defenses defend whole field.

People are reading far to much into the Goodwin quotes. Instead, how about focusing on the part where he acknowledged that Hicks' performance justifies more touches. He clearly knows how good Hicks is and will use him accordingly.

Any quotes from The ST Coach?

Still trying to figure why he was kicking the ball to Ross .
He returned 3 kickoffs for TDs for Univ. of Washington in 2014.
What does our ST Coach do, send our first Kickoff to Ross. Bingo TD ! Did our Coach not know who Ross was ? He just burned RU for a long touchdown in the 1st Qtr.
Can't make this stuff up.

I thought Hicks, Hamilton, Hester and Cioffi played well.

Need to give them some time to settle in. Almost impossible situation for first game of the new regime.

I firmly believe for the first time in a long while we are headed in a verb positive direction.

Support the boys on Saturday!!!

You know what makes me puke...someone with 102 posts who confirms his or her stupidity...you take twitter tweets for what they are and you'll settle your stomach.

Oh the number of posts is indicative of self worth on this page? Is that how it goes, Bob? Lol. Have a nice day, Bob.

Chris Ash is the same terrific hire so many regarded him as being just a week ago despite the Washington loss. Look, I was just as disappointed and even predicted Rutgers would win. With that said , I am absolutely convinced Ash is the right hire and will right this ship. One game means nothing and I'm sure we'll witness games this year like what happened this Saturday. After all. no matter how great a coach he might be , you need the talent to make it happen. And on Saturday we saw the difference in talent a terrific team like Washington has and what we put on the field. Speed kills and the Huskies had plenty of it. In my adult working life I've met several captains of industry and you know when you've met someone if they have those special qualities that make one successful at the highest levels and Chris Ash has those qualities---perseverance, dedication, communication , a vision and passion.......

On ST shouldnt the kicker as tackler of last resort take away the sideline and force return guy back inside where hopefully help is persuing ? On both long returns kickers gave up the side lines

Yes. And the kicker should kick the ball deep into the end zone and then he won't have to worry about tackling anyone.

Probably RU uncertain if Ross had the same speed prior to his knee injury...ACL maybe in 2015....the kid is as fast as I have seen in a long while ...ran under a 4.25 before but whose quibbling?

fair..but what you dont know is if our kicker was executing? Just because it went to ross doesn't mean it was intended too. With our kicking talent i wouldn't be shocked to learn that it wasnt kicked right.

Ross had just burned RU (badly) for a 50 yard TD in the 1st Qtr. He showed his speed is on par or better than 2014.
Sending our first kickoff to him in the 2nd Qtr was simply foolish by our ST Coach.

Your kidding right ?
We know he was executing what he was told.
On the next 5 kickoffs ( after all the Washington scores) the ball was pooched short to the 30 yard line by design.

I'm not kidding and you dont know that. Just because they decided to go to pooch kicking on the next 5 doesn't mean they expected to pooch kick the entire game. They might have asked him to kick away from Ross, He then misses, they then say WTF if you can't directionally kick, we're going to have to pooch all day.

How is that a far stretch to imagine? I've seen it happen in the NFL enough times to know that even they dont get it right 100% of the time, and you expect our D level kicking talent to be perfect? Come on man.

Goodwin is "our guy" is truly a mystery.
Well you saw hicks run but did you see him Block I do not think so because he did Not
Watch the game and Goodwin one handed catch is the other reason he is the starter

I think Ash has been hitting some of his grand daddy's moonshine, I could swear we lost and lost badly
