This is a chronological list of our 7 losses:

L vs 9-5 Kennesaw St (79-77)
L vs 12-2 #5 Alabama (95-90)
L vs 12-2 #10 Texas A&M (81-77)
L vs 10-5 Ohio State (80-66)
L vs 11-4 Princeton (83-82)
L vs 12-3 Indiana (84-74)
L vs 12-3 Wisconsin (75-63)

6 of our 7 losses are currently predicted to be NCAA tournament teams.

We fell to Kennesaw, Alabama, TA&M, and Princeton in heartbreaking down-to-the wire losses. Alabama and TA&M are both top 10 teams. Against Indiana and Wisconsin, we didn’t have our best player, and managed to still keep both interesting (despite what the scores look like).

Now yes — W/Ls are what matter, but we’re better than our record, and potentially the best 8-7 team in the country.

But the team that went toe-to-toe with national title hopefuls Alabama and TA&M is in there somewhere, and that team has the potential to finish the rest of the season 10-6 (or better).

As Rutgers fans, we’re accustomed to dooming and glooming (and one could argue for good reason) — but this team is a lot better than it gets credit. Especially considering that this year has so many new parts, new identity, freshmen, and 2 leaders being freshmen.

We’re technically not even at the halfway point of the season and everyone’s giving up? Let’s see what a healthy & maturing Dylan/Ace can do when Pike figures out the best 5. Despite the contrarians, I think we’re making some progress in shaking that out.

And if we end up on the bubble, I think the selection committee will move mountains to get Dylan and Ace into the tournament — especially after our brutal schedule.

Believe in the impossible.

Believe in a special season.

Believe in an improbable comeback.

It may not happen, but at least it’s more fun. And the team needs that spirit now, more than ever. Go RU!

I will say we haven't had the best fortune with the Acuff injury, then Ace missing the first few games, then Dylan getting the flu. But then again when you are so top heavy guys missing time is devastating compared to a more balanced team like the one we saw on Monday.

Good post . People are giving up. There are small signs that this could come together. Let’s remember the last game Harper played against Columbia many agreed it was our best all around game with offense and defense. With that being said they have to find a way to beat Purdue with or without him.

We are really just starving for wins but the BIG is a massive gauntlet and I don’t think going 10-6 over the remainder of games really does much for us. We need to be better than that AND also depends on who we beat and where they stack at the EOY.

My hopes lie on (gulp) making the BIG tourney and winning it at this stage when things click for this team. Actually was in my dream that we pulled a UConn with Kemba

We have enough talent that we could conceivably go on a run. We’ll need some luck and we have to stay healthy, but 10-6 is not out of the question.

In the end, if we’re on the bubble and don’t get in, it will likely be due to two main factors: poor scheduling (with Kennesaw on the road and Princeton at a neutral site), and Dylan missing 2 games). Hope we can find a way to overcome those 4 losses.

All comes down to Winning the next 2, and split on the road at 2 winnable locations, Nebraska (Tough yes, but when did they become a juggernaut) and at Penn St who has no home court advantage

All the metrics say we suck lol, hell even the eye test says we suck.

Just go turn on some college basketball on TV and watch how much movement happens off ball. It's crazy, it'll feel like you're watching an entirely different sport.
It’s simply amazing to see. It looks like we just threw 5 guys on the court for a pickup game. No identity, not team effort…street ball.

Good post. I think Acuff can be a difference maker as the 3rd option we were hoping for and it might be time for Somerville to get starter minutes.

There is a case to be made we can go on a run. The problem is we already dug too deep of a hole that even if things start to go our way... it's too late barring an absolute miracle run... we can only afford about 4 more losses all season and it's early January

Time to start Somerville. Actually was time a few games ago.
Not about starting but limited played which he is getting.
That said, he is already getting starter minutes so why not start him. Maybe we wouldn’t dig ourselves into holes upfront. Also EO should be the guy who is giving him a breather

Think it’s matchup dependent.
