If RU won yesterday, would you feel differently?
Nobody is going to debate the integrity of Kyle Flood. He is a good man and until it is shown otherwise, he has impeccable character. But that may be his undoing and he may be victim to the saying of what happens to nice guys. You can't expect a coach to control the behavior of every single player, most of which are grown men. If you want to hang Coach Flood out to dry for what Carroo did (if shown to be true), consider that Carroo is what --22 years old? I was married and working full time at 23 years old--making my own decisions. Now the other things with allowing other players to stick around after a couple of incidents have more merit to them.

Flood supporters can't have it both ways. When we win a game "Flood is the smartest man alive" and when something bad happens, we just hear excuses. "Flood doesn't drop balls, Flood doesn't run the plays, Flood doesn't monitor the players"...etc. Either he is the man in charge and the buck stops with him (that means the positive and negatives) or he is not.

Flood might be a nice guy, I don't think you will get anyone to argue his integrity as a person. But you don't get to keep your job just because your a good guy. Unfortunately, that is not the world we live in. I would love to my job security based on people liking me. It seems to me that the head coach at RU is one of the few high paid positions where all you have to do is be a "nice guy", despite your actual job performance. I haven't seen anything over the past 4 years that indicate Flood is the man to lead our program. If we want to be a P5 school we need to act like it, at any other program this would be Flood's last season. 4 years is plenty to prove your worth.

I think we agree on a lot.

So, as a hypothetical (this would never happen), if it was your decision alone, would you hire Urban Meyer, considering some of the things that happened with his players at Florida? Aaron Hernandez was convicted of murder. James Franklin, considering what some of his players allegedly did at Vanderbilt? Those players are charged with rape and awaiting retrial.

Do we have a sliding scale? More wins and championships gets the coach more leeway in criminal behavior and off the field incidents? Less wins, and throw the coach out for less serious incidents?

Just wondering what you meant by the statement in bold.

please don't bring up Urban Meyer..please

the past 6 weeks have been incredibly rough on Flood, some his doing, some not. The totality of it makes it pretty damning for him GIVEN that this season is likely to finish under 500. Yes if Flood was going 10-2 he would be given more leeway here and also its the consecutive hits he is taking. He went to that prof over a guy thrown off the team. That's poor judgment. Don't tell me the coach does not know which players are potential troublemakers and those not worth it.

I made a post a few weeks ago when this email thing started to circle the wagons and support Flood but the past two weeks has made me rethink this because its just too much bullshit giving credence to lack of control and discipline...combined with a shitshow with penalties yesterday. Too much evidence pointing against him, its very easy for the school to can him because of it and the likely poor season with no secondary and without our best player

The penalties were bad. What is totally crazy was Flood's take on it. He basically told his team it's ok to be dumb. In fact he told the world that it's an honor and a path to winning, which shows everyone his state of mind isn't about leading a team but defending a team. That is not a path to sucess!

Not enjoying this at all. It sucks. Wish we were talking about football. That's what I enjoy about this board. However, the program is bigger than one man. Just tired of defending Rutgers football to family and friends. Our image has been destroyed in less than a month. If a change is needed to repair our image than so be it. This is embarrassing and things need to change. .

I think that's pretty much the way the world works. Even look at those Duggan comments that were posted here on his feelings about Camby at UMass. The more you win the more that is forgiven and overlooked. That's just reality.

Well that's not the reality I want. And if that is the reality the fans want, then all of this player stuff is small potatoes compared to what happened to players that Franklin and Meyer coached, and all should be forgiven. If you are going to fire Flood, let's not make it a Kabuki dance about the arrests--tell him he is fired because of the on field performance and maybe the e-mail issue. But if you are saying the fans would be behind Urban Meyer coaching Rutgers and looking the other way if one of the players he coaches is convicted for murder, that would be very surprising.

Umm yea ok. Believe what you want. Read your last 4 comments.

Yeah, like this one?

And let me be clear. Whether it is "fair" or not, sometimes the best thing for the program and the organization is to have the captain of the ship walk the plank, even if he is the nicest captain that all the other guys on the boat thought was the greatest captain ever and a really great guy. Especially when the ship has taken multiple shots to the hull and is taking on water.

I agree it shouldn't be on this stuff alone but if when it snowballs like this then you never know. And again if say he was winning B10 championships I don't think this stuff even the avalanche of it would oust him. It's reality, whether you want it to be reality or not it is. Tressel got ousted because he actually lied but otherwise I don't think he would have been booted for the bad actions of his players. How about PSU before the BIG scandal. They had a streaming bunch of arrests and off the field issues but did Joe Pa get booted for those, nope. It's the way the world works. If you win enough you're going to get a pretty big rope.

When announcers are continuously criticizing our QB for not having velocity (not just the average fans but the ANNOUNCERS)....how often does a football telecast discuss QB throwing velocity!!!!!!!!!... With a qb on our bench with the best arm here since mike McMahon... And with our head coach having the WORST OFFENSIVE LINE STATISTICALLY IN COLLEGE FOOTBAL just a few years ago......AND NOW THE CRIMINAL BLEMISHES....keep the loyalty to RU but NOT THE LOYALTY TO FLOOD. FLOOD IS NOT BIGGER THAN OUR SCHOOL (although some on this board do indeed have things backward).

Ya know. .. Out of all the things going on, it truly is the dopes like this, twisting this horrible, and season-ending situation into a Rettig jock sniff fest somehow, that proves how D league and weak our program actually is.

I am just stating seversl facts. We all have opinions....but I'm stating facts about Flood and our program. 1. The ESPN announcers talking throwing velocity. 2. Flood's worst o-line in college football just a few years ago. 3. Criminal blemishes. 4. A qb on our bench with a stronger arm. All of these are facts. My overall OPINION of Flood is that he has less knowledge and more deficiencies about football overall than any other RU head ciac since the 1960s.
