Some roster/player observations

A few things I noticed about players and the roster going forward:

1. When the backups played in the 4th quarter, the CBs were Kobe Marfo and Zane Campbell. That says to me that they're planning on redshirting Barrow and Lopez. Otherwise, I would have thought they'd be in there.

2. Good seeing Rashawn Battle get some run on both specials and at LB. He made a big tackle on a KO and he was running off the field with excitement like he just won the Super Bowl. Love the attitude. And then he almost got a pick 6. I think he's probably the 7th LB in the pecking order, but good to have a guy like this on the team.

3. I'm a bit surprised they burned redshirts of Vretman and Clark. I'm not a big complainer when it comes to redshirts, but when it comes to OLs, it's almost always better to redshirt them. I thought we had enough depth with Lonsdorf, Heeman, Vanesky, and Krimin so that we could preserve redshirts on Vretman and Clark. I can only guess that the staff thinks they have better upside THIS YEAR than the other two deep guys. If that's the case, then I can certainly live with the burned redshirts.

4. Where was Jawuan Harris in the offense? I don't recall him on the field except toward the very end. Back in the doghouse?

5. We really need Bateky and Hogan back in the DL rotation. With Wiafe gone, and those two out, we're down to Joseph, Wilkins, Davis, Previlon and Turner at the "big" DL spots, plus Nash part time, plus Turay and Lumor at the Jack. Need more depth here.

6. On a related note, I guess they want to redshirt Jaohne Duggan. I thought they would have played him against MS. However, the fact that Duggan didn't play gives me hope that the staff knows the injuries to Bateky and Hogan will NOT be long term deals.

7. Worried about Jonah Jackson. He looked like he was walking around gingerly on the sidelines with his balky back. Maietti acquitted himself pretty well, but I just don't know how much we can take away from playing a bad Morgan State team. Hopefully Jackson is back next week for Nebraska.

8. Geezus, we are STACKED at RB. All four guys had good moments today, but damn shame Hicks fumbled on that incredible long run. And Blackshear was a revelation. That kid is lightning fast and can cut on a dime. But I was also very impressed with how STRONG he is; he doesn't go down easily like you'd think from a guy who's only 180 pounds. Ash or Kill commented that Blackshear probably earned more reps (which I suspect might mean less reps for Hicks). Next year it's Blackshear and Sneed, plus the incoming freshmen.

9. Justin Davidovicz is every bit as good as we hoped for as a KO specialist. 8 out of 9 kicks reached the end zone, and he gets great hang time on every kick. This is a great weapon. So good that I started my own thread on him yesterday, but didn't want to leave him off here.

10. I really like our TE rotation. Washington is a star in the making, and we have good depth with Nash and Griffin.

11. Looks like Snorweah is a writeoff. He's been moved to slot WR but didn't even play in garbage time (from what I could see).
