Sparty goes down again

down to 4-4 and like RU struggling to score. A trip to Nebby and a game vs Baylor could really put them in a spiral. Meanwhile 6 straight for Wisconsin who suddenly has moved from completely mediocre last year to top 4 in the league. Next up Arizona

Could be a B1G changing of the guard or more likely just a one-year blip, but it looks like something is up this year in conference.

Wisconsin is very good. They struggled out of the gate but they have played solid basketball recently. I’m not surprised they handled MSU tonight

Eh, over the last five years Illinois has the most wins in the Big Ten followed by Purdue and Wisconsin and Iowa (IIRC). COVID has warped our sense of time a bit, but MSU has been at least a little down for a while.

Indiana wins at Michigan, Illinois at RU, Wisconsin at Mich St — B1G road wins are becoming easier to find.

It's the 1st week of December......at some point, do fans actually believe this is reality??

I saw MSU played Arizona on Thanksgiving and they looked like a typical Sparty roster.

Meanwhile the legion of fans who continue to down the B1G, must've missed the fighting Blue Hens of Delaware winning at Xavier last night by almost 10 points....supposedly another Big East program in Providence, gets whacked by Oklahoma.

Do we still buy the information that Ivy League players that have 2 good NCAA tournament games, are all better than the players starting at RU and would be late 1st round to early 2nd round picks, then go undrafted and aren't on a NBA roster??

I mean MSU has no track record of losing 10-11 regular season games and making the Sweet 16, Elite 8 or Final Four?? Right???.....🤣🤣

My MSU buddy told me preseason that this was Izzo's best team ever 🤣

At some point, fans would be smarter (hopefully)......MSU has a loaded roster with two high caliber 4* wings, getting their feet wet. Let's fast forward 12 months from now....it will be RU losing a game by double figures to someone in late November or December 2024....and silly or fans in denial are going to say "Pike sucks".....as if teams come together in the 1st 2 months of the season.

So please don't cry next year about RU, like the rest of the fans here who don't watch CBB or have any perspective on reality. At last check, Wisconsin was a legitimate program who made the NCAAs TWENTY years in a row before falling short and I think made the NIT final game last year.

They went from #4 to unranked with a bunch of losses already and getting spanked at home. This isn't a good thing. It's not a good start to the season. They obviously haven't lived up to their #4 ranking.

Will Izzo have this team playing well come March? Probably. He always seems to and is a legend for a reason. That doesn't change the reality that this is a disappointing underachieving start for a team ranked 4th coming into the season. That's the reality

You think this is Izzo's best team ever? You're the last person that should lecture anyone on reality 🤣. You create your own and constantly perform 12 paragraphs of mental gymnastics trying to make it reality when all evidence is to the contrary

I've never said Pike sucks. I've been one of Pike's biggest supports since day 1. The thing you don't seem to grasp about the team taking more than 2 months to come together is that Rutgers cannot afford 2 months. We need wins now.

As someone who constantly claims to be an expert on all things college basketball, you should understand what an NCAA tournament resume is... the OOC schedule matters. Rutgers has a weak OOC SOS and has already lost to Princeton. We play WF and SHU next. By the end of the week our tournament hopes will be gone if we lose both these games. Our OOC resume will be a disaster red flag that will keep us out unless we absolutely dominate the B1G

It will be irrelevant if this team comes together in February. It needs to happen sooner or the season is over and tournament hopes will be dead and long gone by the time the team comes together and gels

Izzo is a notorious slow starter but he almost always pulls it together by the end of the season. And to his credit, even though they usually struggle early, his program many years are the only Big 10 team playing a national OOC schedule, including 4 or 5 games against top 25 teams.

Ha ha, Kevin Willard told us Terp fans to "take a chill pill." Our team was picked to finish pretty high in the B1G, but stumbling so far...

Sparty OOC schedule is always impressive. Gotta love so many big games as a fan... if the B1G brutal season schedule is an excuse for poor play late in the season, adding a bunch of monster OOC games early in the season wouldn't see to help with that problem though

Sounds like he's lost it:

"Eventually, it's going to click. And when it does, I'm gonna laugh at everybody because of all the moaning and groaning that fans do is almost comical, because none of them can shoot either."

Michigan State is struggling but there is no one on their roster that deserved to rank them 4th preseason. Walker is the only consistent player they have had for the last 2-3 years as Hoggard and Hall are inconsistent and their center spot has been underwhelming. Atkins and the new freshman wing Carr are also inconsistent. Michigan State does not have a roster 1-5 like Purdue , Illinois or Wisconsin right now with this Storrs kid flying incredibly onto the scene.
I was at the Jimmy V Classic last night and all 4 teams , Illinois , FAU , UConn , and UNC have better rosters and talent than Michigan State and should get further in the dance than Michigan State. Michigan State was not a top 5 team to start the year and they frankly are not even a top BiG 10 team now.

It’s still early and MSU has played a brutal schedule, but it is hard to believe that they were No. 3 nationally in pre-season polls!

Cautionary tale here. MSU has a 5-star, 6-11, 220 pound PF Xavier Booker, who was ranked #16 in the 2023 Rivals150, and the kid is not even in the rotation. Doesn't mean he won't eventually be a star, but kids like this don't always immediately contribute.

Villanova is 6-4 and they certainly don’t look like they can compete with UCONN for the BE title.

How would you like to be Kyle Neptune right now? Nova fans have little patience. Second coming of Ray Handley down there.

It’s the same old story with MSU. They are over ranked early, stumble out of the gate, most people write them off, then the come on at the end of the season and make a run in the Tournament . . .
