Didn't see it mentioned in the thread about the Court Club meeting with Coach Pikiell but thought this was a really interesting topic that Coach discussed when talking about the new Strength and Conditioning Coach David Van Dyke. Players have chips embedded in their jerseys during practice and games. Van Dyke can monitor heart rate and other metrics on a computer and provide that to the Coach. Pikiell said that he uses that info to determine how hard they are practicing vs. game conditions and will affect whether he needs to push harder or maybe cut back. Watched the replay of the FDU game and Dick Lloyd mentioned it too on the BTN Plus broadcast.

Jerry Carino also mentioned that he went to practice early on and there was one guy who he didn't know that was shouting at the players and he wasn't one of the coaches. Turns out it was Van Dyke who appears to have important role. Big difference from the former NBA Strength and Conditioning guy that Eddie had, which was not the right fit for college players who need to be driven to work on their bodies in a way pros do not.

Pikiell treats his whole staff real well. Van Dyke is active in practice, and is on the bench or near it every game.

Way to use technology the right way. It is showing.

It's night and day, as was thought it would be.

They look like a basketball team now, not a bunch of kids who don't workout. Every player transformed their bodies on some level.

They started that technology with soccer I believe a few years ago because they found that many of the injuries esp one year where the girls had a rash of ACL tears were occurring when the girls get fatigued and probably all athletes. I don't know the exact number but just from a purely fan and one who follows the womens soccer team they have appeared to have way fewer ACL injuries the last few years.

I know they're using the technology. Don't want to jinx them, but hadn't thought about the ACL injuries & you are right.
