Tai Strickland Visiting Soon-ish?

Competing against Wisconsin is going to be tough, but maybe the tournament run will give us some momentum. Hope we can land him.

Said he'll decide sometime near signing day. Spring signing period begins April 11. Ends May 16.

Also competing against Maryland and Minnesota. All of the point guards on the coaching staff seems like a positive. Hopefully, we can hang onto them a little while longer.

Sounds like we have a legitimate shot.

He singles out our coaching staff as one he really likes, and later when asked what the key to his decision will be, he says "being comfortable with the coaching staff."

Yet to be determined how interested Maryland is in Strickland. In fact Friday may decide that.

If you heard/read some of Tai’s interviews, the strong showings by Sanders and Baker (guards) in the B1G tourney certainly helped

I saw the same comment in another interview that he likes the fact that Rutgers has 3 former starting PGs on the coaching staff. On the the other hand, the Wisconsin HC is not a "Gard" coach.

Somebody is going to become a high visibility star at Rutgers - somebody is going to see the possibilities - and it might be somebody who has grown up within the circle of a significant NBA player, one who knows the power of the NYC metro market & how it can embrace a star, one who can look at what is growing at Rutgers & see where it could go , one who has no problem seeing that Rutgers made a few waves at MSG this year - and if somehow Rutgers could do it again with more gusto & horsepower - and really light a bonfire - the region would get whipped into a frenzy - and who ever is leading the charge will be catapulted into the headlines - for the duration of their Rutgers career and beyond.... Somebody will figure this out.

Wisc also offered friend I saw. Russ could probably answer this, but I see Rutgers as number two right now on his list.

Offer his Dad a job and get rid of “shoes”
Can’t hire his dad unless it’s in a coaching position. Can’t recruit a player for 2 yrs if you hire a person associated with a player in a non coaching position

Is there a plan B if he signs elsewhere ?
I don't think there is a good one. Losing him would be a kick-in-the-balls loss that would be similar to Alvarado. We need to start getting PGs on this team. It would annoy me if we came in second to this kid. You have Pike and Knight who were PGs in college...if I was a PG, why wouldn't I want to learn from these guys? SMH

I’d love to hear more in your last statement.

He has great recruiting connections, but there have been significant scandals involving paying players and was accused of being part of a plan to rigged SAT scores for incoming freshman. Most notably he was let go at UNLV after a high profile incident with Lamar Odom, who signed for UNLV and then never played for them when his test scores were questioned by the NCAA.

Never formally charged with anything, but I'd like to stay away from people who are associated with this sort of behavior. I've been firm on this for years. Not interested.

Just my own personal opinion but I want Strickland with or without sanders. And I want him more than that Juco kid who also looks good but is a 2 guard. If Corey stays, it would be great to have him groom Tai and if Corey goes, throw him into the fire with geo and Montez and let him learn the hard way.

We are simply short a point guard no matter what. Geo is terrific but I just don’t see him as the point guard answer. I like him a a hybrid but we need more help.

You might want to give up on college sports then. Seriously.

If Strickland is making his mind up before the signinng period which starts April 11 then Sanders better make his decision soon. Souf is going no where and Bullock doesn't seem to want to leave so the only opening we have is if Sanders leaves. That decision needs to be made before Strickland's decision or we are out in the cold.

If Maryland offers, and at this point I'd say that's 50-50, they would be in a great position to land him. Tai considers Maryland home. He kept his Maryland cellphone number. The Maryland head coach will watch him on Friday, if he likes him he'll offer him. Then it is a matter of how hard they'll push for him as they are on some other 2018 PGs as well.

50/50 wisconsin/maryland or 50/50 everyone else/maryland?

Russ...NOBODY changes their cell #’s anymore...okay unless they’re hiding from pimps (hookers) and dealers (blow)...Seriously I can’t remember the last time anybody willingly changed their cell phone number.

That's not true. These kids change cell phone numbers all the time, at least the kids I'm used to covering down here in Florida. Since most of them are not natives, the first time they change numbers it's from the old area code to their new local area code.

But you're focusing on the wrong thing in my previous post. Tai considers Maryland his home. IF Maryland were to offer him it would be a big deal to him.

From what I hear, we are in as good a shape as anyone when it comes to Strickland.
Yes, Rutgers is in good shape. Wisconsin will really push for a commitment while he's on campus. They really think that once they get him on campus that it is over. I disagree. Tai told me that his dad told him to be patient and he's kind of a chill/laid back kid, off the court, anyway.

Wisconsin has a weird cockiness about them. For all sports.

Geo quickly becoming both a leader and my favorite player on this team. (Not that the latter half of my sentence matters.)

I’d be surprised if MD offers before he verbally commits somewhere
