That I disagree with since it was a flag going directly against The United States Government. That would be like saying the British flag is American because they founded the majority of our first 13 colonies. Or Maybe a dutch flag? Throw a French flag in there also.

I mean the confederate flag is a direct symbol, for many people, of racism and slavery. Yes the majority of soldiers who fought in the war never owned a slave, because they were too poor, but a major component of the war focused around a slave based economy and an industrial based economy.
