Tariq Francis (NJIT freshman guard... Not as OT as you think)

A BleacherReport article from 2016 calls a Tariq Francis, presumably this guy's dad, "Knight's best friend."

Young has known Brandin Knight, a former star at Pittsburgh and now assistant coach, since he was in elementary school—long before he played basketball competitively. Knight's best friend, Tariq Francis, was an assistant coach on Young's first AAU team.

The younger Francis was originally set to go to The Patrick School this year but he reclassed and went to NJIT instead. Would've blown up and been a high major recruit if he'd done that.

I’ve seen him play a couple times and he’s very talented but unfortunately there’s really no room for guards on next years roster. Obviously no roster is guaranteed in the portal era but we’d ideally have Dylan and Jwill starting with Simpson and Jmike coming off the bench. I’d love for him to transfer in and stash him on the bench for the year after Harper leaves especially with the Knight connection but I doubt he’d want to be the 5th guard. He’ll probably want to transfer somewhere where he will get more pt or stay put.

Knight has a very good salary as a assistant coach. He has no head coaching experience which would generate a higher salary at a power conference school.Starting at a MAC level type school is the course of action if he wants to be a head coach .Danny Hurley is an example. There are plenty of fired head coaches waiting for another chance.

Is it safe to say Coach Knight will never be HC at Rutgers?
Or he will not be the next HC?

If all goes well, then HC Pike will be here for the foreseeable future. Is he going to wait around as "coach in waiting" for a decade?

If things go badly and HC Pike is fired - it would have to be a multi year process of losing.
Does Knight endure that? Would the AD even want him at that point and would Knight even want the job at that point?

The only scenario I could see is if HC Pike retires or gets poached in the foreseeable future.
How likely is that?

The key question: Does he want to be a HC?
