Tell Us About Rutgers

Janarion Grant. That is all.....

No literally. That is ALL. He does everything. Every other aspect of our team is either meh or terrible. Talented RB's though.

We start slow for whatever reason which is a death kneel when playing anyone with a pulse.

Strengths: RB

DLINE: is pretty good. The rest of the D lags.

Weakness: QB - we don't have one. OLINE: not agile enough. You can't coach that, you need to recruit it. WR: lack separation

I expect to see Sunday morning headlines: "Iowa gets back on track...."

Weakness-we have a vocal contingent of fans that like to whine a lot. Our crowd gets deflated and taken out of the game early. Our passing game has been very spotty. We take a while to get going and our first quarters have been lopsided in our opponents' favor. We give up a few explosive plays early on.

Strength-tailgating scene.

Team plays strong all four quarters and gets better as game goes on. Our running game and use of Janarion Grant has compensated for the passing to a degree. Our tackling is fairly decent, with some slips ups in spots. Our pass coverage is improving every game.

Strength is that every position group looks better than the week before. Playing faster stronger and smarter all around. It may not be enough to threaten a top 25 team like Iowa quite yet, but I am loving what I've been observing.

None of what I said above applies to qb. Our starting qb is among the very worst in college football.

I don't think Iowa will be in the top 25 when this game is played.

The R U chant is finally slowed down and working
Yeah, that only took about 5 years to fix, at least we've got that going for us. To the OP, really we do nothing well except kick/punt returns. So really it's just one big Weakness overall.

Con: we got off to terrible starts in all three games. That trend needs to stop.

Pro: we are mentally tough and playing like a team. No evidence of finger pointing or quitting when we have those bad starts. After trailing 21-0 yesterday, we stroked back on a 31 point run to take control of the game.

Conditioning looks to be a strength, very few guys going down late in games.

Coaching staff has made nice adjustments on both sides of the ball in each game to improve results during the game. Not just at halftime, too.

Martin is a dynamic RB, tough to bring down too. Hicks is a tough runner usually too but didn't get much done yesterday.

Grant is our most dangerous offensive player. Eight special teams TDs in his career. Coaches are finding many ways to get the ball in his hands on O.

DL is stout. Not a ton of pass rush from them to date without bringing extra guys, though.

QB play is the biggest weakness. Guy that has been starting doesn't throw it up for grabs usually but is pretty inaccurate and not a real running weapon.

Secondary has some athletes that have made good plays on the ball but also given up some big plays.

The kicker has been solid from short range but I don't think we would go for 40+ yard FGs with him.

The TE is off to a pretty good start too.

Running game is very good but not as good as it could be because the passing game has been so poor that teams can concentrate on the RB's. QB is one of if not the most inaccurate passer in the P5. It isn't only one issue. Some are bounced. Some way overthrown. Some are 2-3 yards off line and those are on the short throws. He is very good throwing out of bounds tho.

Defense is strange. Can't seem to do anything right the first couple of possessions but then settles in and plays pretty well. Not a whole lot of QB pressures which makes the back 7's job more difficult.

Kicker is accurate but range is limited. Punter was doing well but yesterday was poor. ST's are good receiving but poor covering kicks.

Fun Fact: Rutgers has been outscored 59-14 in the 1st Qtr. In the last 3 Qtrs, Rutgers holds an 88-31 advantage.

Weakness - first quarter, quarterback play, first quarter, kick offs, first quarter, field goals longer than about 38 yards, first quarter, linebackers, first quarter, secondary and first quarter.
You forgot to mention that we have problems getting going in the first quarter.
OLINE: not agile enough. You can't coach that, you need to recruit it.
I seem to remember us having this problem in 2009 and 2010.
Strength-tailgating scene.

Hope this is true! Will be there by 8am to find out

So tell us about Iowa. was NDSU that good, or do you guys have problems? How did they control the line of scrimmage against a top 10 B1G team like Iowa? Injuries. Weak spot in your D-Line? We need to know where the holes are.

I suggest you go into victory formation and kneel down for three downs, then punt.... for the first quarter

Many outside of Midwest don't realize that NDSU is like a mid level b1g team that can play like an upper level team in 1 game scenarios. (I say that because they have fewer scholarships so less depth to get through an entire b1g slate)

So, NDSU is definitely legit

Coming into season I thought the run game would be Iowas strength. Shockingly Iowa has struggled a bit with it and was embarrassed Saturday.

On D, there were concerns in a few spots but the run D has been Shockingly disappointing too. This is scary.

Why? I'm not sure. I do think our DE play has been poor and LB play on the edge has been horrible.

Very concerned going into conference play.

Wadley (a NJ kid) had an uncharacteristically poor game yesterday. Was your OL getting killed too yesterday?

Wadley hardly got to play. He banged up a knee last week so guessing that's why.

Starting Center has been out last 2 weeks and RG got hurt last week and missed some time yesterday too. Not an excuse but certainly didn't help.

NDSU plays a very similar style to Iowa. Their goal is to eat up the clock and smash it down your throat. They pretty much did that in the second half and kept the ball away from Iowa. It really seemed like I would never had a chance to get on track and they didn't

Our crowd would have to be in their seats early to be taken out early

Honestly after the sack that ended with a pick-6 I knew there could be trouble. Unfortunately we've seen this movie played too many times during the Ferentz Era. It's weird

Then the first or second play of the second half we broke off a 60 yard run and It got called back for a bogus hold. Historically you could just feel what was about to happen

I don't want to give the impression that I think NDSU is a cupcake. I am full aware that they are a great team and can't be taken lightly. Sounds likes Iowa has a lot of warts too. Problem our biggest wart right now is the most important skill position on the team. Maybe it will be a low scoring defensive battle? 3-2? 5-3? [cheers]

Iowa has a history of making poor quarterbacks look like Cam Newton. So many times opposing qbs have had career days against Iowa despite no previous or later evidence of being capable. So don't despair....

People that graduated in the nineties are disappointed and shocked how Rutgers has fallen in the academic rankings lately. #25isnotgoodenough

EDIT:
We also promise to not play the theme song for farmersonly.com. (BTW, I know that it was not played in reference to the farmers of Iowa).

Dude, listen to me it doesn't matter if you leave a guy wide open by 10 yds., you put any semblance of pressure on our QB he will throw off his back foot and spike it into the ground at the receivers feet. And by semblance of pressure I'm mean your Dline simply has to get a push of maybe two or three yards and his mechanics go to hell..
