Wicker -- pretty lame that guys are arguing about his track stats.
Uh, you do know that he was also a starting outfielder on the baseball team, right? Yeah, so he was honorable mention, all-district as an OF. Running track is his second spring sport. So how much sprint training do you think he was doing? He only runs in the districts and states, but he still ran 21.85 in the 200 at the Texas state meet. That would have placed 4th at the NJ Meet of Champions last year.
I'd say give this kid a chance. In case you haven't read his personal story:
Personal Statement
I've been playing football since the age of six while also playing basketball, baseball, and running track. I've always aspired to play collegiate football and going into the NFL. Understanding that playing any sport in college can have affects on the rest of my life, I constantly work to improve my skill and physicality. I treat my team members as family while being a leader by example and encouraging them. I'm very coachable and strive to be the hardest working player in every sport I play.
Academically I maintain a 3.3 GPA which puts me in the top 50% of my class. I am currently ranked number 72 out of 157. I've volunteered supporting the little league football teams to encourage anyone who needs it.
The thing that I think makes me different than most is that over time I've had to overcome adversities that many people will never see. When I was 6 years old, my mother had to uproot the family due to Hurricane Katrina, which lead to us splitting away from our family and friends. At that time my mother decided to give me a chance at little league football to help me cope with the change. I was the smallest on the team and I wasn't sure that I would even like it. It took one play to make me realize that football was it for me. I've never missed a game or the opportunity to play a single down since then. My hard work and dedication has put me in the position to be on the varsity football team since my freshman year. Although that was a big accomplishment for me, I know that this is only the beginning. Just thinking about what's next only excites me more.
I plan to attend a university where I can be challenged while I'm there to prepare for the future. I'll continue to be open minded to all of my options in hopes to find a college that best suits my personal needs as an athlete and professional.
