On November 24, 1937, the S.S. Arrow left New York at 6:00 pm and arrived in Providence Thanksgiving morning at 7:00 am – enough time to get you to the 11:00 a.m. start of the Rutgers-Brown game. Total round trip ticket was $4.00, 75 cents for meals and talkies. See Citizens Travel Bureau at 820 George Street.

The November 26, 1937 Daily Home News said Frank Foster of Brown opened the game the day before with a 95-yard kickoff return. That’s all they needed as they held on to beat Rutgers 7-6. Thanksgiving Day games were held at Brown Stadium with Rutgers in 1939 and 1941 as well.

The Rutgers-Brown Thanksgiving Day games took the place of Brown hosting rival Colgate in Providence on Turkey Day from 1921-36. After WWII, Brown resumed Thanksgiving Day games with Colgate mostly from the 1940s thru the early 1960s.

A safe, friendly and delicious Thanksgiving Day to you all. In the grand scheme of things, far from Rutgers football, we are enormously lucky and fortunate in this world. Be good to each other.
