The answer to: Should Rutgers devote research to Football turf development

It looks like we do, that then begs the question. Why were/are our grass practice fields stated to be in bad shape. It is notable that there is no mention of practice facilities, just well know venues. But one would expect that in a B1G article.

Well something to put in our pipe smoke and talk about before digning day.

Lack of funds, but thanks to a large donation, they will get fixed and they will get a huge face lift. In case you missed it: http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i...tgers_upgrading_to_best-in-class_practic.html

Thanks, yes Saw that. There was a thread where some raised a question why our turf fields arent better linked to the donation. Question was dedication to turf development or will all practice fields just be artifiicial, which Ash has stated is not optimal.

I still don't understand how this isn't covered by maintenance at RU. It's ridiculous that athletics has to cover the cost of it's grass fields. Does the English department have to pay for maintenance of the shrubs and grass outside it's buildings? This Universities policies towards athletics is just straight up strange. It's almost like they treat it like a foreign country. You can put in new asphalt on this side of the line, but that side of the line is the RAC which falls under athletics so leave those potholes alone. That's just friggin asinine.

I agree with you on this to a large degree. The University reply might well be something like, "The English majors are not tromping through the shrubs as they read Shakespeare sonnets."

Maybe the academic departments should equally be charged for polishing or maintaining the tile floors, walkways to the classrooms and yes, even as noted, the general landscaping and shrubbery around the buildings. Certainly letting the team practice on a turf field would be a valid test for the product. Only at Rutgers! There are many more ridiculous change backs like this throughout Rutgers. If Rutgers could only "hide" some things like they routinely seem to do in Trenton, the GSP, NJTPK and other State agencies all would be well.

Would love to see them used as a laboratory for Cook.

Rutgers Jersey Hulk Turf...youse gotta problem wit dat?
