The Chop RU Wrestling Style

Heck yeah, I was pumped when he did that! That’s me standing, in the black shirt with the small R, just over his right shoulder—had a perfect view and what a pleasant surprise to see the Chop and its variations—in Colucci’s case, it looked like the Axe—spread to other sports. When Ash got rid of it I wasn’t happy about that, and now that we have it back it’s tremendous.

Rutgers is fighting such a huge battle to recruit and win against schools that have been building their brand for a century, so it was stupid to get rid of anything that was establishing an identity.

I also used to love how during Schiano's first run, no matter how good or bad the team was, we were "known" for our kick blocking ability on special teams. I'd love to see that happen again, but I don't know if it is possible with the new style of punting most teams use.

Slight tangent....why is the Maryland wrestler wearing shorts instead of a unitard?

I want to make an amateur hour joke about UMd wrestling or Under Armour or a since-fired equipment manager who forgot to pack the right gear, but maybe there's a legit reason.

My thoughts as well....if we want any tradition to transcend the entire athletics program and the Rutgers athletics brand, like the chop for example, it doesn't have to be just a football team thing and would be cool to see across other teams. That's how it becomes a greater rallying cry and identity for the school/campus, etc.

I suppose other teams/coaches can embrace if they want but may want to have their own stamp on their program, but if they don't have anything else with their own imprint it would be cool to see it picked up organically.

Imagine at the RAC seeing Myles Johnson with a thunderous dunk or RHJr coming down the court on a breakaway jam and them doing a couple chops in the hand after they land on their feet...would get the crowd amped up even more I think.

Lol, no the equipment manager did not forget to pack the correct uniforms....The two piece uniform came out years ago, but it was a skin tight top and skin tight shorts...never really caught on. Last couple years looser shirts and fight shorts came out. Some "marketers" think if more teams wore the shirts and fight shorts, people would buy their favorite teams apparel and wear it. Most teams still dont wear them and stay with the traditional singlet.

The whole team was wearing them, and it looked like amateur hour in gym class. Not sure who signed off on those uniforms, but they gotta figure out something better than those eyesores.

I sit behind the Rutgers bench for men’s basketball and I will be imploring them to keep chopping! Pikiell likes Schiano so he himself might introduce it to the team. Either way, I’ll be using it regularly during games. I’ll report back if my handiwork shows up on the court—I’ll be pumped out of my brain if it starts to happen!

to much upper cut, looks more baseball home run style. Someone get Greg to practice! Details matter. It should be more overhand and downward.:Laughing See :YesNo

he also did the downward hand chop a second later, but you don’t get a clear view of it in the video.

The singlet is one of the biggest reasons more kids don't wrestle at the youth level. They don't want to wear it.
The shorts/shirt thing will become more common moving forward. While I think for a variety of reasons the singlet is the better choice, I guess that is what the people want.

I think this is awesome!

Colucci and Goodale doing Schiano a real solid!

And I actually like the chop that Colucci did.
It was obvious what it represented, and gave it a fresh look.

Think it would be good to have at least 2 versions of the chop.
And athletes (and fans) across all RU sports could really have fun with it.
