I need to rewatch the rest of our games, but the possessions where we run dribble handoff have been subpar. They are not effective 1) with a weak big man. You need a good screener and roller (or pick and pop). We don’t have that option 2) if you pickup the dribble too early. It gives the defense time to adjust and be aggressive to go for a steal 3) if they are far outside the three point line. It’s almost impossible to have a one dribble pull up or an aggressive drive when you come in with a wide turn from that.

Not really sure we’ve ever been good with this offense in the Pikiell era and it results in a lot of forced drives and iso ball

The offense is designed to force a team to switch and break up the original defensive assignment, it is the preferred offense that everyone runs, including Princeton running it the entire 2nd half and isolating Martini in the defensive assignment against a player he cannot matchup with.

It does require a 5 man to run, but Ogbole is not the preferred type of big, because he doesn't catch passes cleanly and does not score or finish at the basket (like last night).

If tbr staff runs it with the right personnel (Grant, Dortch and Sommerville) it would work fine and not with bigs like Cliff or others without good hands.

I am a fan of running it on the wings which gives it a more natural backdoor cut when the D is expecting the dribble hand off. Gives more optionality to the player on the wing.

The difference seems to be wr just run it randomly with no intention.

As you correctly point out - Princeton said "we want X on Y so we are going to force that switch".

Are we making that decision and being purposeful with what we want the end result matchup to be?

We seem to run it to just waste time and allow the defense to set back up how they want.

This. Rutgers offense lacks a purpose especially on the dribble handoff, which is why it looks so sporadic and choppy sometimes. This might be because we have a cop out if things go bad (Ace crazy fadeaway or Dylan drive etc) but rarely do we get a mismatch like Lee on Martini or get an open back door cut like Wisconsin got in the first half last night.

We don’t set proper screens. They’re weak and pathetic, OR Ogbole trucks someone.

And we never hit the roller.

lol if you hit ogbole on the roll it’d be a 80% chance of a bobbled ball or a travel. Lathan hasn’t impressed me on pick and roll but I’m sure will develop over time. Maybe that’s where Grant can thrive?
