The firing of Eddie Jordan

Guys. I have heard from someone who is very close with a member of the former staff, that the firing of Eddie was handled very disrespectfully by Hobbs. He was basically given a 2 minute meeting with Hobbs after team got back, and told he was done, with very little in terms of conversation. Not the way you treat a former legend who many older boosters respect. I know it's a business, but a public thank you for your service in helping us thru a bad period would have done wonders in the eyes of many older boosters who loved Eddie. So, water under the bridge, but that's what was told to me.

I did not see that statement... Thanks for that. That confirms to me it was done with enough deference. I agree that he knows this is a business. Just saying what I was told.. I told the guy as much, it sounded like sour grapes.
Seems like your sources were misinformed or have an ax to grind in typical grumpy Rutgers fans/alumni fashion.

I would be the 1st person to feel that you dont FIRE an icon.....you just let him go and thank him for his service.

Ive read nothing that leads me to believe we have done otherwise. Everything said in public has been respectful.

EJ surely saw this coming and frankly had to be relieved.

We gave him the shot he deserved...and he was far from "the answer' to RUs Bball woes
He leaves a millionaire with respect from all.....

Except me. Doing the bare minimum for three years doesn't garner a lot of respect in my book.

We have now have two coaches on staff more qualified to run Rutgers than anyone employed here since Gary Waters - and I liked Mike Rice too.

Now this is funny.....[banana]

I hear Hobbs had planned on firing Eddie the day before with plans for a full hour-long meeting complete with a lengthy and contrite apology, but when he went to Eddie's office at 3:30 p.m., Eddie had already gone home for the day. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Don't care. Jordan made a lot of $$, got us past the Rice scandal fallout, and was a miserable failure as our head coach. "C'mon in, Eddie. Look, there's no easy way to say this, so I'll just say it. I've decided we need to move in another direction with the program, and you are being terminated. Thank you for your efforts."

Done.

are these the same old timers who have supported mediocrity for years..were they the same ones giving Jordan a standing ovation and claps because the team was showing effort and not quitting..even though they did more than half the time. Perhaps if these are the people pissed off that Jordan is fired, its a good thing. Our fanbase needs a culture change. People get excited when a player makes a basket and all of a sudden he has potential..our expectation are so low as a fanbase that many cannot tell the difference between bad basketball and good basketball.

Hell, Hobbs did him a favor by firing him. Being disrespectful would've been not getting it over with right away.
Agreed.....the worst thing would have been to let Eddie "twist in the wind".......the bus got back to the RAC after the last game of the season and Pat took care of business at that point. Done.

I did not see standing ovations, maybe I missed it...... I don't support mediocrity but I support the team each season by showing up...... We could get pissed as fans, it does not help with wins or losses.

It is very simple..... Some here feel bad about firing Jordan, but understand he did not do the job, and it was necessary...... It is not any more complicated than that.

We as fans do not have to be pissed off, just let the RU management do its job.....

I was always curious how long the meeting lasted. Seemed like it was a very quick "ok, done" kind of meeting. Give Hobbs credit for pulling off the band-aid. I had also heard rumor when Hobbs was first hired that this was probably going to happen anyway. The 7-wins just confirmed his suspicions and made the decision much much easier...

In real life, the meeting wouldn't even last two minutes and the employee would be escorted off company property by security after surrendering company property.

It's a business and sometimes 2 minutes is enough to state what you have to say respectfully and end the discussion. Unless your source knows what was said, it might not be as bad as he thinks it was and Jordan might have preferred to keep it short.

I have all the respect in the world for Eddie Jordan and I believe Pat Hobbs wouldn't go out of his way to insult someone who is considered one of RU's greatest players because he failed as it's HC.

This is the real problem. The fan base has been hijacked by low lifes the don't deserve a Rutgers education let alone know what to do with one. High standards as fans, low standards as people. Perfect.
