I met Pikes at a fundraiser in the city a few weeks after he was hired and was immediately on board. Like almost all of us, I’ve been a staunch supporter of his, however that support is starting to come into question.

Will he improve/ learn from this debacle of a season or retrench? Either way with $24mm left on his contract, we’re stuck with him for a minimum for 3 years unless he does something stupid a la Mike Rice or Pat Hobbs.

His comments so far have been the schedule has been too tough (retrench), staff is great (retrench), and we have a great recruiting class coming in (as if high school recruiting matters anymore - retrench). None of these sound like someone who is appropriately reflective in this situation.

I really hope he learns from this season and hires a real GM that can moneyball our roster next year but I fear it will be someone he or someone else on the staff has a prior relationship with.

I hope he upgrades the staff and brings in someone to run a more efficient offensive scheme that holds players accountable. I fear we will still see terrible shots like Derkack clunking open 3s. Next year he will say he’s run a great offense before bc we scored 80pts a game this season, despite the fact that’s due to 2 nba lottery picks - a caliber of player he will never have again.

I’m hoping for the best but the few comments we’ve gotten from him point to the worst possible outcome. He has squandered a once in a lifetime opportunity for RU and himself, and I fear he has learned nothing from this. Steve please prove me wrong and make some real adjustments.

Love the guy. He needs to make some changes to deal with the current environment. Hope it works out. He’s done things here nobody’s done and we should be grateful but we need to get better. Im sure he’d agree.

When you come off that season, one would expect something like, “as much as I love our guys we didn’t do enough. I’m going to revisit everything we do here, including my approach, and make sure that we get back to where I know we can be.”

Pike says — nah we’re good and we’ll run it back with the same coaches, models, etc, except I’ll try to get us out of the Las Vegas tournament.

We agree he needs to make some changes. But will he. I loved what he did the first six years. The last three, not so much. The collapse after Mag got hurt at msg. Especially the bench dancing and fooling around in Minnesota during that monumental collapse showed me a program with no discipline and no accountability. I might think it’s a little more than some changes that are needed. But I hope he adjusts.

Do have to question “done things here nobody’s done”??? He won one ncaa game. I might have to go back 40 years before he did but we’ve done that before. If you mean upsetting Purdue, we’ve had upsets before. I’d rather get to ncaas then have an occasional upset of a ranked team.

Not trying to argue with you, we both want the same thing, Pike to figure it out.

Winning record in a real league. Lots of things. Do a little research for **** sakes.

I think he won the most games in a season vs. ranked teams and beat a #1 team for the first time. Although that was only a few years ago, we are light years from that team now.

Hahahahaha, a real league cause you call it that. Doesn’t mean we weren’t in real leagues before. I guess when we went to a final four the league we were in mattered. Btw he’s only had two winning season in a real league and has a sub .400 record the last three years in your real league. I was nice but I’ll be blunt now. The last third of his tenure has been hot garbage. He’s living on past laurels from a group of a few kids he was lucky to have and struck gold when they got an extra covid year.

Also love your “lots of things”. What a clown response. Like what, has the record for most times waving his arms up and down so the rac crowd gets louder. Most times saying “this is on me”. Not even worth having a discussion with you. Regret starting it.

He has done lots of things that have never been done here before. It’s not even debatable.you may not be happy with where we are now and that fine but to not acknowledge what he’s accomplished is either willful ignorance, sheer ignorance or stupidity.

The reality is that even after 3 years, it would still be a monumental $8mm buyout. We couldn’t scrape together $1mm to keep cliff.
there’s a pretty big difference between finding NIL to pay a player and continuing to pay a coach’s contract after firing them. our athletic department is now getting $80M annually from the B1G tv deal alone. we can’t have our hands tied just because a coach is due to make $3.5M a year for the next 5 years. his remaining contract isn’t due in a lump sum, he just continues to be on the department’s payroll.

Stupidity is saying lots of things without examples. Mr. Magoo quickly stated a couple things which I acknowledge. They’re ancient now but I recognize them. But your “he’s done lots of things” like I should just kiss his feet and also be content with mediocrity is silly.

Just gonna leave it here. No offense intended. We don’t agree on some things but we’re all fans so let’s hang in there. Have a good evening!

I’ll give you one, got two five star recruits. It didn’t work out but it was exciting when he got them. Have a great rest of your weekend. I hope he gets back to 2019-2022 Pike.

His record is pitiful. He has never won anything. It’s time to accept this and move on!

Pike’s contract is an issue ….but it’s only an issue if he doesn’t reset a true foundation here

The next 8 months will tell us if he is going to be able to do this in thjs basketball climate

Right now …only 4 big ten school has not been the ncaa tourney in the last 3 years …Ohio state , Rutgers, Minnesota and Washington

it’s going to be four years running …but If pike doesn’t get a foundation established thar we can see by this time for next year …then it’s going to become 6 years plus….with out without Pike…and thats not acceptable.

And if a new AD lets that happen ….we have the wrong new AD here

Pike needs to show that The reset button was hit correctly in the next 12 months …

Plus all of these numbers get cut in half since Hobbs left.

These buyout numbers were cut in half once Hobbs left BUT these are the numbers if someone wants to poach Pikes. If you wanted to fire him without cause, you owe him the entirety of the contract, I believe.

Those blasting him would shut their faces if they interacted with him .

So you think many on this board would prefer a very nice guy (which I’m sure he is) losing to winning? Maybe we get a nice guy who can win in the NIL landscape. It’s business and fans want a winner. He gets paid millions. Fans fork over a lot of money for tickets, parking, donations, etc. I’m pretty sure that’s to see a winning result. Now if it’s just one loss like at OSU when the guy came in from out of bounds we can have the coach’s back. But this is a few years now of a downward spiral. I can still wish him all the best (which I do) and want an ncaa tourney caliber program at the same time.

Let’s just be careful in separating what legit criticism is …and what the over the top nonsense is .

There is plenty of things that are being said thst I bet if you put Pike in a room and promised that you would not say anything to anyone else , he would like to do over .

The ad hominem and venom need to go away

The question at hand …is does he get the foundation reset ??? And done fast enough to get the fan base strongly backing him again?

The fan base is divided and shaken …and the
New AD will want to get our fans United behind our direction …and will want to see this from Pike as well …..

We must have the dumbest fans in the world. This has been pointed out repeatedly, yet I keep seeing post after post getting it wrong. It's not that complicated. We owe him the contract. Period. We can only burn it off or pay it out. Admittedly, both awful options. The buyout is for another team to poach him. Good luck with that. We can only pray. That would truly be something I would be grateful for. Not getting us to mediocre and then falling backwards again

Ignore him. He's 'grateful' for a ceiling of mediocrity and benchmarks everything against an era that no longer exists. Chronic loser mentality syndrome. A lot of people here suffer from it apparently

🤣 the arm waving and the repetitive hand Signal he uses all game every game, where he extends his pinky and his index finger and rotates his hand 🤣
Must be his offense play call, the same thing every time, iso ball 🤣🤣
He has got to go at all cost, fire him bring anyone else in a HS coach, pay him $250,000 to $500,000 k, incentivized him. Pike problem solved for 3 years at a cost of $1.5 million
Time to get creative anything is better than sticking with arm waving defense and finger rotating offense!

I wonder if the dirty, free wheeling nature of the NIL era works with his personality and character. Tampering is clearly rampant and I just don’t think that’s who he is.

I don’t think we’re blasting him, it’s just reality. 95% of us are not Pike haters but the results speak for themselves.

When it comes to hiring, you hire the best and you’re fair to the rest (to use a Pikeism). If he doesn’t adapt, I’m sure RU will be fair to him.
