A lot has been written on this site the past few weeks about the importance of New Jersey and/or Rutgers ties for the new coaching staff, so I thought it was important enough to start a thread on this absolutely critical topic.

So, given everything you know about Jersey/Rutgers ties, which one do you think would be best for the staff to settle on or do you have another you'd suggest? Discuss...

NJ HS coaches supposedly loved Flood and he had plenty of Jersey guys on staff and look what that netted us. Panagos was our best recruiter and he was from FL. Let Ash and staff do their job in winning and then the NJ recruits will start to come again. The new younger guys on staff might relate a lot better with the types of players as well so I do like the mix that Ash brought in and am looking forward to see if he can close on a big name or two before Feb. 2017 though is where the real recruiting begins.

I know this is a joke thread but whatever I responded seriously.

We had plenty of NJ ties with no results. Flood even tried to give jobs to former players which may have enticed some recruits but nothing. We can only get better because we weren't doing a good job even if the Flood supporters raved about the best recruiting class ever at Rutgers.

I see some of the posters have disappeared so they may have been working for a Flood.

Schiano had no ties when he arrived back in NJ. He was gone so long.
Over rated concern. Ash showed last night you don't have to be born here to earn respect

It's vital our coaches have NJ ties for recruiting.
They should have a good mixture of stripes and solids to really make a strong impression.
You simply cannot expect our high school players to stay home unless you have these NJ ties...I sure hope Ash realizes this and sends the coaches out to Short Hills Mall immediately!

many of the top tier programs that recruit NJ have limited NJ ties (ie. Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St, etc...) yet are able to get the doors open to talk to recruits. Ash will be fine as an outsider in the NJ circles.

Because Rutgers is so familiar to the recruits as the local school it will always be a consideration for them but may be the back up situation since going to a school 30 to 45 mins from where they live may not always be the college experience they desire. (similar to the general student body)

Is it difficult for top tier programs in other states to buy NJ ties online?:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

As I said in another thread - the success of the team under Ash is going to come from player development and game day coaching. I assume he will be competent enough to get us a class between 30 and 45 on a regular basis with some NJ kids and more Midwestern kids than we are used. I dont think Ash with or without NJ ties is going to get us top 20 classes on a regular basis until he starts winning (and even then its tough). So whatever works for him works for me. We are in a strong enough position now that a solid coach should be able to get some of the locals on board just by them being local.

Don't forget one of our assistants was focused on Florida at Iowa State, so there is experience still hitting that area.

Or,none of the above. Haven't
worn a tie in the last 25 years.Another perk that retirement brings.(Actually I think I did. At a funeral.)

I am convinced this staff will develop ties with nj and the coaches. Don't know that current ties help, didn't help the last staff.

Integrity, how we treat the players, how we develop them, delivering a message the kids want to hear, and wins are what's important. Hopefully this staff will deliver on these and we won't have to hear about ties for long.

I wore a tie for my job interview in 1989 and I noticed nobody in the department wore ties, so that was the last time I wore a tie at work. I've worn a tie to a couple of weddings/funerals when my wife pushed me really hard. I hate effing ties.
