OT: How often do you get a new cell phone ?

2 factor authentication….where you get an OTP (one time password, usually a 6-7 digit number) that gets sent to your phone to punch in after you’ve already entered your password or biometric info.
I assume he gets emails or a phone call for 2FA

Worked in the industry for 25 years. I buy Samsung new open box phones from a shop in Perth Amboy.

Got my son an S22 for $230 a few weeks ago. We never buy from the carrier and pay off monthly.

Biggest concern is when you stop getting security updates that's why you buy the Samsung Galaxy Flagship line. Otherwise you are a sitting duck for being hacked.

Newer Samsung devices will get updates for seven years.

Just got a free S24 and a free additional line yesterday. If Verizon hadn't offered me a new phone, I would have gone 4 or 5 years for sure. Btw, the last 4 digits of the new line are 8008, so my middle school dream has been fulfilled.

What are 2FA requests?
Amazing.

Do you bank online, or use social media, or check email on a phone? I can't even run my companys payroll without a "two factor authentication" aka 2FA and it's all tied to my cell number.

I don't replace my phone until it stops meeting my needs.
Same here, if I can send texts/calls, receive calls and texts I'm fine. I'm not someone who's glued to my phone and needs it everywhere I go. For some reason that's strange to a lot of people. Now my wife on the other hand, she always needs the newest phone which seems to come out every 6 weeks. She should just crazy glue it to her hand as he treats it like a child's pacifier.

slow even when “cleaning up” and updating the phone
Curious what you mean by cleaning up. Are you just removing unused apps? Or doing a factory reset? I have done a backup/reset/reload and amazed at how much newer the phone feels.

I have given that advice to several friends that were complaining and they usually say that was too much work but then go to the Verizon store for 90 minutes and have them do basically the same thing albeit into a new phone.

Yeah just cleaning up the apps and storage.
Not a factory reset

Give the factory reset a try. Not sure what you have on your phone but almost everything on mine from contacts to photos to email are all stored in the cloud. Almost don't even need to do a backup anymore.
