THE OFFICIAL RUTGERS-IOWA PREDICTION THREAD

Iowa is #2 in kenpom ratings.

Who the heck guards Uthoff? He is 6'9''. I almost think that Mike Williams has to start and Grier off the bench. With Lewis limited I'd almost consider starting DJ at center (guarding the 7'1'' guy).

The real concern is handling pressure and a trapping zone (GW game nightmares).

the margin is going to be dependent on how good Iowa's 2nd and 3rd team is. i see us down 15+ at the 8 minute media timeout.

we are due for a good game offensively though which should help us on the defensive end. Need to score 4-5 of the 1st 10 possessions to get confidence....if not..........

Iowa wears black and gold uniforms for this game. lol

Jarrod Uthoff could play with the last 4 players on Iowa's bench and still beat us by 15 points or more.

Best of Luck,
Groz

My optimism is out the window. Purdue 102-68... and its not that close! No reason to think they will not score 100 like Purdue!

Predict the number of tweets from @RUTGERSMBB during the game. During the Purdue game, it was only 4.

As a Hawkeye Fan,I can say that JU is a tough out for anyone. Very few have slowed him down. If you do, then you have to watch for Jok as he can go off for 20+ at any time. This is one of the best Iowa teams I can remember, not because this team if full of blue chip players, but they know what each other is going to do at any moment, and they play as a team.

Iowa can go big or small depending on what the other team is doing. We can go 6'9" - 7'1" - 6'9" - 6'6" - 6'4" or a full lineup under 6'7".

Iowa likes to "run" but they can also play slow ball when needed. They use the press and traps pretty well because of their length. They have quick hands and do a good job of not fouling.

Iowa like the 3 ball, but can work it inside too. If they feel they have the advantage on the inside they will use their length and work it inside.

Iowa team stats
47% FG%
41% 3PT %
74% FT%

I was expecting to see the tempo #s high, but they aren't. 69.6 possessions per game..ranked 168th.

it is the defense that has improved in the program.
2016 12th at .923 points per possession allowed
2015 34th at .948
2014 120th at 1.027(5th offensively!)

Iowa has Purdue at home on Sunday. I believe they will go for the throat early and we will see them play 94 feet with lots of zone trapping. If they can jump on us early it could mean 20-25 minutes for Iowa's core players.

I should have prefaced my "likes to run" comment. They are not a quick shot team and will use the clock; but they will push the tempo if the game allows it and take the fast break points.

You are correct the defense has definitely improved this year, probably the most improved area in my opinion.

It's really hard to guess if Fran will set up the press and traps early in the game. I think it will really depend on the flow of the game, he subs a lot so Dom Uhl and Nick Baer will be off the bench early and often.

Iowa normally goes 8-10 deep depending on the situation, so there may be many different looks.

If Iowa get a rather large lead, you will see Fran go deep into the bench to get the younger guys some experience. There is some talent there; but albeit inexperienced.

Here's to a competitive and injury free game. Good Luck the rest of the way!

I like the -32 number...

Vegas has had the last 2 games in the 20 area and have been wrong. kenpom has 83-62.

Laurent coming back is probably worth 6 points if he does.

The big unknowns are the margin of victory and will Iowa top 100 points.

Iowa 92 Rutgers 63

Iowa 115
Rutgers 68

We will score more because the game will naturally have more possessions since they will score at will early and often by just dishing it inside to the big guys with 20+ on the shot clock.

The other unknown is will Iowa have more rebounds than RU has points. I think RU scores in the 50s and keeps Iowa's rebounds in the 40s.
