THE OFFICIAL RUTGERS-PENN STATE PREDICTION THREAD

We win a close one 70-68 to ruin the cult/Ped U fans night and make it a great night for R U Fans as we break over 500 for the year. I Think Mathis has a BIG game and even shoots 70%+ from the line as he slashes his way to the charity stripe early and often.

Who guards Stevens if Eugene can't keep up with him due to his knee?

Last home game in front of a sellout crowd with meaningful impact for a 8th league win.

Stevens is a scoring machine that spend lots of time shooting and making foul shots.Defending him will be critical to a Rutgers win.

I thought at the time i could see us winning at Penn State and then losing at home.

Progress is always a few steps forward and then one step backward. We haven't had a stinker in a long time.

Penn State also has not had a stinker in a long time while Rutgers is coming off their best game...usually a return home means a build off of that game. I think RU is brimming with confidence right now

Stevens just had a poor shooting game vs Wisc - 4/12, which does not happen often. he did get to the line 13 times.
first time around Reaves had a very poor game, was in foul trouble.

PSU 75 - RU 65

This is a young team that will have spent the last 4 days reading all the articles fawning all over them - the mentions of NIT and even running the table and making the NCAA. The biggest margin of victory over a ranked team on the road since their fathers were born. Harper being frosh of the week. Coach being interviewed by everyone one everywhere.

Its Cincinnati 2006.

God I hope I'm wrong cause that will suck.

PSU has two ways to win....Stevens goes wild for 20-25 or RU falls asleep defensively and allows their very good freshman of Dredd and Bolton, to drain 3s.

I would allow Stevens as many shot attempts as he can take and shut off Bolton and Dredd. I would also single cover Stevens, because he's capable of moving the ball and finding shooters.

The reality is RU played better vs Minnesota than they did at Iowa, with the exception of allowing Minnesota's, Gabe Kaucher to launch 6 wide open 3s....and he proceeded to drain all 6 of them....if we defended Kaucher better to a 3 of 6 shooting effort, we hold Minnesota in the 50s and win comfortably.

Same concept applies here....stay with Bolton, Dredd and make Stevens take 23 to 25 shots and grind for his points and make his FTs. If we do that, I don't see a path for PSU to get into the 60s.....2s cant beat RU, but PSU hitting 7 to
8 3 pointers, will get you beat.

I won't mention RUs FTs, but any reasonable whistle by the refs and decent FT shooting by RU, makes this a 7 to 8 point, grind it out win. If RU knocks down 3s at an alarming rate like Iowa City, and this could be another step forward.

The scouting done by our assistant coaches and staff is what I consider A+. It doesn't mean we have an eraser at the rim like some teams or are as athletic as we might be in a year or so.

But I think RU now has more options to go to and I really like PSUs freshman enough that I think they're the key to this game, not Stevens, Watkins or Reaves.

How does this fan base handle success is the question...does this fan base expect a win, because they buried Iowa and believe PSU isn't capable of winning...???

The stuff I am reading the last couple of days is all good and somewhat eye opening. Many fans believe that a change has finally happened or RU is better than a couple of programs in the B1G....and I do believe RU is ahead of schedule as well, but this is when the fan base can't start to grumble if a slow start happens or some silly mistakes pop up early.....this is a true test of staying grounded and a bunch of underclassmen playing and staying within the concepts.

That's where the assistant coaches and staff have to play their defensive assignments well to frustrate the rest of the PSU roster. Let Stevens get his, shut down the rest, knock down some shots and climb the defensive glass.

RU 69, PSU 60.....it may look better than this and if Baker and Harper play within the offense, this has the capability of being very fun or a 14 to 15 point game, if we defend and rebound properly..... If this group of RU freshmen don't defend or treat Dredd and Bolton like they're guarding Bohannon and the shooters from Iowa, we're in for a dog fight.

Myles Dredd since the restart of B1G games in January.....39 of 99 from 3.....40% shooter from 3....he was 3 of 10 vs RU from 3 at PSU.

Rasir Bolton is 17 of 62 from 3 since the restart of B1G games....BUT since the 1st RU game, he went wild over 5 of his next 6 games with 14 of 29 from 3.....essentially shooting 50% from 3.....in his last 3 games it appears the scouting reports are pick your poison....let Stevens roam or stay with shooters....in last 3 games, Bolton is 0 for 7 from 3.....he went 1 of 4 from 3 vs RU the first time out.

To take 99 3 pointers in 16 games is a LOT of attempts for Dredd. These players are more dangerous than Bohannon or what Iowa throws at you, because they can get to the basket and score...Bohannon wants no part of much contact and isn't a finisher at the basket.

RU has to be ready defensively in transition and locating the freshman running to the 3 point line....they will launch if given airspace.

Not a season ticket holder but picked up tickets to game a month ago thinking it could be a good rivalry game. It's going to be rocking and I plan to be loud. They are red hot but so are we. Home is the edge. 79-78 RU in a squeaker.

I’m a little surprised by how many on here are picking RU by more than 5 or 6 points. I hope it happens that way, but I see it as a pretty close game.

I agree with Hawk that we should let them try to beat us with twos, not threes. I also hope we stop them from quieting the crowd early. I see a close first half and then RU building a little breathing room in the last 10 minutes, and PSU cutting it to 4 at the end.

RU wins 69-65.

Sell out record is 0-4 ... heart says win, brain says loss ... RU never swept a B1G team ... can RU have nice things?
