THE OFFICIAL RUTGERS-PURDUE PREDICTION THREAD

Purdue 81
Rutgers 52

Really didn't like what I saw vs. Minny. I also fear there is no reset button as the team, I believe, never slept in their bed since the Minny loss. The 3 bigs are not ready to play 25+ minutes. We are getting zip out of Kissa and I don't know Caleb's status.

Purdue 73
Rutgers 68

Unfortunately I think we keep this one tight and then the letdown comes against Northwestern.

I agree. This is where Coach has his work cut out. He has to get his kids focused and confident that they can beat Purdue. Inexperience and bad matchups don't bode well. Purdue 84 - RU - 66.

Purdue 77 Rutgers 63

Might be closer if McConnell plays.
Agreed. Mcconnell will be a key to my prediction here because were going to need multiple guards to take turns on carson edwards who is just playing extremely loose and aggressive right now.

With Caleb- 74-62 Purdue

Without Caleb- 79-59 Purdue

Purdue is nowhere near as good as last year...but who is going to stop Edwards

even if RU keeps it close, I fear another game like Minny.....where the issue is not being able to generate enough offense and then the defense just gives way. Despite the improvements from the youth on offense its still not enough because its more complimentary..we still do not have any legit scoring threats with Eugene out

We may may have to worry about a guy not even on the radar a week ago. Freshman Trevion Williams looked good against Wisconsin and his stats looked better the game before vs. MSU. If Carsen Edwards want to take 26 shots it plays in to our hands. The secondary threats are what really worry me.

Purdue's gameplan may be to pound the ball inside and get our 3 bigs in foul trouble. if we play zone we could get pounded on the glass and i think Purdue shoots it too good for them not to beat it.

Edwards is the key. If Rutgers plays as intense as it did against Ohio State, this can be a close one. If they do not bring the intensity, then it will be a long night. Most at Purdue are not really taking RU that seriously.

Keep in mind, Saturday is Indiana for Purdue. That is the one game of the year that is a must win. This could be a trap game. Which Rutgers team shows up?

Man I had no idea how good Edwards was... he's averaging 25+ PPG and has scored 19 or more in every game this year except one. He's the 5th leading scorer in the country. He's 6'1'' and can shoot from outside... not sure who RU has to match up with him.

He just played 42 mins (OT) in their last game, so hopefully he's got some tired legs for tomorrow.

Edwards is a go to shooter fully capable of scoring 20 plus points against Rutgers.

Put a mixture of Montez Mathis, and McConnell on Carson Edwards. Overplay him, and communicate to the bigs you will need them to rotate when he goes backdoor.

Offensively, I hope to see Carter and Johnson get a lot of looks as Purdue is not very strong inside.

Purdue is really good. They are truly offensively balanced and Edwards is an all Big Ten player. Our D hasn't been wonderful yet. This doesn't mean we aren't going to win 5 or 6 Big Ten games, I'd just be stunned if we are even in this one.

We can compete with and potentially beat anyone at home.

Pike has one Big Ten road win. 2/4/17 we won at Penn State 70-68

Haven’t seen a spread yet but I say we cover.

Our dilemma with Gene hurt and with Mathis and Harper playing more minutes is that those two freshmen are better in an uptempo game, which is the exact opposite of what we should do against a better team like Purdue and Minny, especially on the road.

If we slow it down we neutralize the impact of those two guys. So what will Pike do?

Edwards is gonna get his. The question is, can we dictate the pace and use fouls to take them out of rhythm? And of course can we make enough shots to keep it close enough to win?

This team is an enigma and without Gene and maybe without CMac it’s hard to tell what we’re gonna get.

Still, something’s gotta give and you just know that at some point we’re bound to have a good shooting night when the other team is somewhat cold, so why not in this game?

Initial point spread has Purdue as 14 point favorites.
Over under listed at 139.
Vegas predicting something like 77-63

Geo has always been good against Purdue on both sides, including playing surprisingly good on the ball defense on Edward's.

Without Eugene, it's tough. But I predict a Harper breakout game along with a good Geo game (aren't we like 8-1 when he scores 15).

Trend line to me has RU pushing towards 70 again if Caleb plays...

Purdue 79 RU 71...

Wins on the road are really hard to get & Purdue is pretty decent at home

Didn't like what transpired at Minny:flush:...LOVED what we did vs :cool2:OSU:cool2:
:okay:[thumb2]LOVE what our freshmen are doing [thumb2]:okay:

We have injuries

Purdue is very active with their match up planning. It changes every game, whereas a lot of teams will stick to one or three lineups.

We will probably watch Thiam guard Haarms more tonight.
Id like to see Harper Jr on Bodreux.

Don't see Purdue as explosive as in years past overall. Hoping Edwards has an off night

Rutgers is banged up

Haarms is 7-2. I can't see Thiam guarding him. It will need to be Doorson and Johnson.

I really want to see Rutgers go inside tonight after the past two games.

I feel like Haarms has faster foot speed than Doorson and Johnson.

Purdue has a lot of interchangable players. They will get a lot of kids on the floor.

With McConnell being a gametime decision tonight because of a groin injury, I just can't pick RU here. If McConnell can't go, we're going to have to play Harper or Mathis or Kiss at PG for 5 to 10 minutes (depending on Baker's foul situation). Plus EO is still out.

Boudreaux is out (groin) and may find himself Wally-Pipped by freshman Trevion Williams, who was outstanding last week in games at MSU and Wisconsin.

Eugene is a legit scoring threat? Wow. I give EO a lot of credit for the offseason hours in the gym adding the needed outside shot to his game. But IMO he needs to reel it in with those shots and let the game to him around the hoop like his first 2 years...there’s a reason the other teams are giving him space to shoot.
