THE OFFICIAL RUTGERS-WISCONSIN PREDICTION THREAD

Oh yeah, having Mathis dog Trice should happen for sure. Him or Thiam needs to be there all 40 minutes IMO.
This is another example of that “pieces of the puzzle” phrase. Mathis may not be able to handle Trice this year but I think he will be a lot better off with that type of player of year or two from now. Right now I agree we’ve got to try him and Issa against Trice. also agree that we don’t want Geo chasing him around. I think Wisconsin is really tough , And that we’re really going to have to shoot well to keep it close. Most likely suspects or Kiss and Harper.

Some good discussion here.

Hard to believe, but the NC State game was only 7 days ago, not a couple of weeks as one of the posters thought.

In the Bahamas tournament, Stanford decided to allow the Badgers to try 2-pointers to their heart's content, but was not allowing kick-outs to the arc. UW hit their only 3 of the game with 30 seconds left and were 1-8 overall. Stanford was very offensively challenged, though, and UW won handily anyway - however, I think this was the most effective (non-Virginia) strategy employed against Wisconsin this year. In the next game, Oklahoma tried the opposite strategy of taking away points in the paint, and UW hit 14-22 from beyond the arc.

Trice is the best 3-point shooter, but not the only one. You've mentioned Davison, Pritzl, and King, but the second best might actually be Ford. He was hurt in the preseason, had surgery, and not expected back until mid-December. To everyone's surprise, he came back for spot duty in the Bahamas. He is not playing well defensively yet, but he was key to the victory over NC State with 4 made 3s.

Last, Wisconsin will bring Happ out to the arc to screen for Trice (especially late in the shot clock). Once Trice gets around it, Happ rolls to the post. Trice usually either has a shot at a 3, a drive, or a dump to Happ. How that is defended is key to any team's success.

That NC State game was last week as ACC B1G challenge.....with RU playing 3 games in 6 days, that game a week ago seems like a month ago....!!

@BadgerInSpartyland .....Wisconsin and zone defense....is this something Gard will show???

I am hoping we will be competitive. I was impressed with Wisconsin's victory over Iowa at Iowa. I think Wisconsin is too loaded against our young and talented players. I wished we played them in February instead of now. Wisconsin by 8-10 points.

Nope. Wisconsin, to my knowledge, has played one possession of zone defense in the last 20+ years. This was an early game a couple of years ago and the fanbase about had a stroke. Man-to-man exclusively.

That being said, there are zone principles within the defense and a lot of switching on screens. You can get a little guy on a big guy occasionally (and vice versa), if you try. Iowa did that and tried a lob into their big that Davison (our 2-guard) made a steal on, but that was pretty fortunate.

Current line is Whisky -12 and u/o is 127.

I'll guess 39 all at the half; than crazy fouls called against us to begin the second half, and --as others have said--fatigue hits us. Final Whisky 81 to RU 70, their depth led to to the impressive upset of Iowa.

I need to know who are the officials tonight to see if we have a chance.

MSU/Iowa has D.J. Carstensen, Paul Szelc, Rob Kueneman.

Worried we will get Courtney Green or Lewis Garrison again
