The problems with this team....

Miami and Purdue have uber-quick PGs that will cause problems. Illinois is going to give us fits with their defensive pressure. Michigan's defense is shutting down literally everybody. Indiana has a two-headed monster not dissimilar to Heron and Ponds on SJU.

So there are some matchup problems on the schedule, of course. The good news is that we finally have shooting capable of getting hot enough to win a game or two we shouldn't. And if we do the same kind of job on Myles Powell that we did on Shamorie Ponds then we have a great shot against SHU, because they don't have a second option like SJU did.

Was really impressed with Illinois versus Gonzaga last night. Super tenacious.

FT shooting.

Our percentage is not acceptable. This team has shown a lot of promise, but giving away free points is not something any team should be doing. I believe some extra practice for those who are not capable to getting at least 60% in is a good thing.

what problems other than youth and enthusiasm?
The biggest problem Rutgers has faced since joining the B1G is winning games on the road,Until this problem is solved achieving winning seasons will be very difficult .

Trent Frazier one helluva guard for Illinois. He had 29 against Gonzaga with 27 in the second half..The Big Ten this year is a beast...

Yup. And he missed their game v. Georgetown, which explains that close loss.

Had that problem in the BE too. Waters may have had a long and prosperous career here if he could have been the one to solve that problem.

RUJMM78 is the Jon Rothstein of this board. I love it. Just copy and paste the same things over and over.

Shaq Doorson, Issa Thiam, Peter Kiss, Geo Baker, Eugene Omoyuri.

We have this notion we have a very young team. It is not completely true.
I am not sure I get this response, but my sarcasm meter may be out to lunch again.

There was no sarcasm. I feel like I have read a lot of threads talking about how the team is so young. It's not really all true. We have a mixture of students that are freshman, sophmore, junior, senior, etc.

It's almost a balanced team.

The program is not relying on any freshman too heavily.

Mathis will come along. CM will come along. Harper Jr can really be the freshman to help his team out a ton.

We're young in the sense that we only have one senior on the team, and one of our three juniors has only seen 11 total minutes.

Only 289 of 800 total minutes played (36%) have been by upperclassmen.

I made this point before the season. Shaq old man senior. Issa and EO juniors with a ton of experience. Geo is a sophomore but our best player. Kiss is a junior age wise. No freshman in the starting 5.

Harper and Mathis are 4 star freshman coming off the bench, not the starting first option. We aren't AS young as we seem

For sure. It was a great point. Harper Jr will see likely see the most time going forward out of all the freshman. He can be a real talent here. Even easier to root for a jersey kid.

You ever look at Shaq on the floor and just feel like he's been at Rutgers forever? Lol. I know hes had his injuries. I am happy to see him happy, healthy, and playing well.

Ball handling and movement is the issue now. It will get better but adding Mulcahy and Jacobs is the big boost plus whoever we add for the last ship. Next year gets better.

I agree with that. But I do think we sometimes view a guy like Geo as an upperclassmen because he was forced into action so early. I can also see the young argument as we’re not senior laden and built to contend for any kind of bid this year. Freshmen like Mathis and Harper are getting significant minutes as is Myles who is a redshirt freshman.

I hear you. Baker is also a very mature kid with the right mindset. We have seen seniors in years past that were not on his level.

Geo playing 35 minutes in a blowout is troublesome. McConnell needs to get to the point where the staff trusts him to play more minutes.

He's like the wife who keeps nagging her husband by whining the same things over and over again
I appreciate his consistency... would Pikiell and the staff know that a winning season was an important goal if they didn't read his posts? Who can say?!?!?!?

Out of 353 D-1 basketball teams we rank 320th in “Experience”. We are a very young team as compared to the rest of D-1 basketball.

I was thinking McConnell should have gotten more minutes but I'm wondering if Pike wants to make sure Geo has his cardio up and ready for when he needs Geo to play these 35 minutes against the B1G schedule

Our offense is young. So many of our turnovers are on plays that were going to result in dunks/layups and quality looks. I'm really looking forward to next season.

We used to have turnovers on plays that weren't even towards the basket.

With the offense, any player on the floor could end up in a position to take a quality shot and they all will look to take the quality shot. They will all also make the pass to give someone an easy look. I love what we do on offense.
