I don't think it's that big of a deal that these tributes are paid for by the military. They're basically paid ads. I'm sure the military has an advertising budget and they pay for ads on TV and print, too. I think the problem is that we've been lead to believe this is being done by the NFL on behalf of the military. That makes it look bad. And of course, the writer is trying to play up that angle to stir things up to get views.
