One of the things that I found odd is that Ash & Mehringer did not slow down the pace of the spread offense when it was struggling.

The offense wasn't working. The OL was getting beat on 1st and 2nd down and rushed to the line of scrimmage for third down often without the benefit of huddling up, regrouping and getting ready for the next play. Guess what; 3 and out.

Same for several 3rd and short plays. Sometimes its extremely helpful to get in the huddle on the road and making sure everyone is ready to go all out and get that 3rd down conversion.

Now, when things are going well and the D is wearing down under the pace of the no-huddle that is a different story. Keeping them on their heels works.

Going three and out in 90 seconds against the power BiG teams will have our D worn down before November. Hopefully, we can adjust.

UHHH.... I believe we aren't using a huddle in this offense but I may be misinformed...can somebody help out on this...

Oregon runs a similar offense and from what I've seen it all depends on the QB. If you don't have a decent dual threat QB then it doesn't work as well as it should.

Yeah our super slow offense of last year was so incredibly effective. Why change what wasn't broken.. lol

I gotta say I'm confused with OP. For the most part we played at a very slow pace for what we want to do. Think you are just jaded from the years of Pro Style. We will run at a much faster tempo on Saturday.

This is where this reminds me of Schiano's early days. Many times playing a more base defense would have helped get wins against "inferior" teams.. or keep the score closer vs good teams. But he kept calling HIS defense because that's what he wanted to get better.. practice by practice, game by game, season by season...

I can see how this kind of offense needs the same investment.
