1.. it seems as if he gets the most out of his players. I would like too see the development of Justin Goode. Maybe with some motivation this kid puts on some muscle, improves his confidence shooting, and we can get a bench player who averages 8-10 a game.

2. Somebody who actually promotes the team and kids. I think you would have to go back to Wenzel to find a coach entrenched with the students who changed the culture at RU. See Schiano and now Ash.

You mean 8-10 minutes a game? When is the last time RU had a bench player averaging near double figures a game. We're lucky if our starters do that.
I would like to see no more scholarships given out to players like this. I guess Eddie learned from the Wenzel school of recruiting.

Conditioned players. Players that hustle on defense and close on the three-point line. Players that know how to box out and do it aggressively. 40 minutes of effort from everyone. Players who stay eligible. No assistant coaches on the bench who look like they're in a coma. Nobody driving the lane like a madman and tossing the ball in the air near nothing (though Daniel's graduation alone may end that). More wins. Keep the blowouts to a minimum. Please, none of the 35-60 point losses. RU's presence in the HS gyms of NJ. Some capable NJ HS players starting to name RU as at least an option. I'm sure there's more.

Competence. Something we have sorely lacked the past 3 years

Nice collection of factors to look at but only one really matters,ie, more wins. The closer Rutgers gets to 15 wins the more confident fans should be that the program actually is heading in the right direction. On the other hand floundering in the 7-11 win range is a clear signal that the mens basketball program is still stuck in quicksand and can't get out.

1. a team that actually gets better as the season progresses as opposed to getting worse
2. a dozen wins
3. a team that plays defense, rebounds and competes
4. a decent spring recruiting class with some actual B1G talent
5. no excuses

Schiano's first few years were tough. One thing you did see was the defense getting better & better - gradual drop in points given up. Would like to see this in BB. If you play good defense you have a chance in any game.

A team that has a plan on offense; one that knows how to react ( i.e. positoning themselves on the court, and moving to open spots) to the opposition's defense, whether it be a zone or man-to-man.

And a team that is capable of playing decent defense against 3 point shooters; and can be in position to get occasional rebounds.

Big Ten level recruits signed in Fall early signing period. No level of coaching will help if we only have sub-par talent. Need available ships to give out, of course.

my bar is pretty low for year 1:

1) Have the team NOT look like they picked up basketball or the 1st time before the season

2) Get us some BASKETBALL PLAYERS

Guarding the 3 point line & boxing out for rebounds
A team showing toughness
A team showing enthusiasm & intensity and having fun
A team moving the ball around quickly and finding the open man
Winning more & hopefully getting near .500

16-15 with the entire team returning for 2017-2018 and legit hope going to Maddison square garden on the NCAA bubble with a chance to play our way into the big dance at the worlds most favorite arena

Commitments from top 150 players. Without it all the rest of the above is meaningless. We will not win no matter how good of an X's and O's guy he is without a team full of top 150 players.
Start showing that the program is in capable hands and no longer a complete train wreck and you will greatly improve the chance of landing more talented players. Let's start with that.

THE ABILITY TO MAKE LAYUPS

- make them when receiving the ball within 3 feet of the basket
- make them when following-up off of rebounds
- make them on fast breaks

.....MAKE FREAKIN' LAYUPS!!!!

Getting the players and fanbase to stop accepting losing as a given. There will be more than enough losing next year as this team has to learn how to win. However I am looking at the subtle shifts in thinking. Jordan did not see all that interested in talking about winning and setting goals. This much change from the new regime. Also our fans need to understand that making a few buckets here and there is not progress and sign of a Big 10 player. We will know progress when you see it because its something everyone starts agreeing on.

He's a disciple of Calhoun, so I'm not concerned about his Coaching ability in the least.

1. Free Throw Pct will increase
2. Turnovers will decrease
3. Rebounds will increase

Will this translate into increased Wins, perhaps, it's hard to say.

My only concern is his ability to recruit. So far, so good.

Just improvement. Goode will be fine by the time he is an upper classmen.

Is this like one of those trivia questions from source? The answer would be Douby's freshman year( he ended up starting in the NIT)

I want to see a competitive basketball team. I am tired of seeing a team that is out of the game by half time. Next year it would be nice to be able to enjoy watching them play. In a sense it may sound like I am setting the bar low but I am not when you think about it: a team that is competitive and fun to watch might just also win some games.

Improvement on all levels......fundamentals>>>>boxing out>rebounding>crisp passes>nice cuts....

Win our OOC games instead of stumbling through the OOC schedule.....go into the B10 with 8-10 wins

An upset or two...like the Waters years when we beat Cuse the year they won the NCAAs & ranked Nova et al
and also thats when we PACKED THE RAC & were considered a place to be feared by foes

I guess basically to gain some RESPECT.......EXCITEMENT......maybe some swagger

I think Pikiell WILL do many of these things in year one.....

If I see an improvement in the passing game alone,I'll be happy. It was downright awful at times last year.

How is possible that we make the NIT next year? to make the NIT you pretty much have to win 18-20 games. Its not just squeaking in at 0.500 any more.

I'm with you these guys are nuts thinking we can get to the NIT next year (regardless of roster and/or injuries from this past season). If we do, IMHO, we hit the jackpot with Pikiell.
