This is really year 1 for eddie

RU needed positive PR and anyone from Rice's staff wouldn't have fit that bill.
Rice's actions ( though overblown by press) made Jordan's first season one that has to be overlooked because of what he had facing him because of the fallout of the MR fiasco.
His second season should count as his first in the attempt to rebuild the RU MBB program from what Rice did to it.
Then add the years of futility RU MBB has had since it's last NCAA appearance, Jordan isn't facing an easy task that will allow him to have a quick fix and be able to build a winner by his 4th year.
Not saying he'll build one by his 7th ( many posters said it would take that long when Eddie was hired) because if RU MBB doesn't show improvement by the end of Eddie's 4 year , Hobbs needs to find a replacement ASAP and spend the money to bring in a quality replacement and start working on how to give that HC all he needs to succeed.
Wouldn't be opposed if Hobbs did that after this season, but if it's another hire on the cheap choice I feel Jordan should be given his 4th year before doing that.

um Cox and Macon were cleared somehow..they were assistants so I don't see the problem there since they were on staff anyhow and the players actually supported Cox as coach not that they should decide but since this whole thing was about outrage about abuse toward players maybe they should have...if we were going hire someone for 7 years then it should not have been Jordan, we could have done that with Hurley. and again you keep ignoring that an extension has to be made

Another horrible argument. So Etou and the 2 Johnsons were filling the 1 scholarship spot that was left. Fact is we got Laurent because Etou left, and I'll take that trade every day of the week. There is attrition at every school, event he top ones.

and of course were already taken a scholarship of Goode as well.

and as you say there is attrition at every school every year yet why are you convinced there will not be any here of significance

When Rice got fired there was a general consensus on this board (if you weren't part of the majority let it go it was the idea generally accepted) that year 3 would be year 1.

Coming off the worst NCAA scandal in sometime, for basketball at least, an embarrassing program actually had some people speculating it should be shut down.

People clamored for Rutgers to make an investment and stop hiring $750K coaches.

Rutgers did that.

By year 3. Eddie has a remarkable incoming class that 3 years ago was simply inconceivable. At the conclusion of the season, he will have constructed a full roster.

Injuries this season, whether Bac or anyone else will admit, has completely derailed this season. Just accept it. Seriously.

EVERY sports professional outside this board, and many on this board, expected at minimum a 5 year project just to get Rutgers basketball back to a sub .500 team and distance itself from thhe embarrassment that was Mike Rice.

Eddie is right on track. If he had won 5 conference games instead of 1 (or is it 2 I forget?) would you be happier? Trick question I don't care and no one else in college basketball does either.

sorry but 5-32 in the last 37 games against D1 and you cant tell me its right on track..thats comical. Please don't make out people who disagree with Eddie supporters to be out to lunch when you bring a record like that out. 0 wins vs rpi top 250. Best wins are Howard, FDUand UMass Lowell. Life and death struggles against Central Arky and CCSt who are some of the worst programs in D1 and that was with a full lineup.

yet we are the crazy ones while others have blind optimism that all of sudden the underrecruited guys are going to come in and bring this team to 500 next year...even though we know jumps like that do not happen in this league..ok yep Ill take what Ive observed the past 3 years over a bunch of fantasy best case scenario projections for the next two years

RU Ohio made a scary post. If we stay status quo, Freeman gets a red shirt, Eddie has no openings in the 2017 class.

Maybe the 2016 class surprises...if not, we have a full roster, but not remotely ready to compete with the top 3/4 of the B1G.

as I said in the other thread there is always roster turnover...these things end up playing out at every school...the lesser talent which there a couple here would be pushed out...also lets remember we lost two recruits here Butts and I forget his name the first year, then lost both Johnsons plus Etou last year and Parker this year already so yeah things end up happening.

This was Year 1 for Eddie from the get-go. The injuries have made it Year Zero, and possibly even Year Negative One.

Firing Eddie after this season sends the message that this program is willing to fire a coach who hasn't even coached a full season. We have to at least give Eddie a full two seasons, which may translate into an additional four or five seasons in actual Gregorian calendar years... Depends on injuries.

At some point it would be fascinating to see a timeline over the past 3 years to really identify the mistakes Jordan has made. i know you can't look at specific scholarships and make 1 to 1 cause and effects. There is no doubt that Butts and Johnsons and parker hurt the quality of people that "took" their scholarships. if the 3 guys we just recently got commitments from aren't contributors it is those prior decisions that get the most blame.

Separate question.....
How many Jordan recruits has he seen play in person more than once?
other than the guys he had AAU, i'll be not many

Who here is disappointed with the class of Sanders, Laurent, and Freeman? Raise your hand. Eddie had no business bringing in two 4 star talents to this shell of a program. Not Laurent, but he's certainly a recruit more with in the realm of possibility of recruits Rutgers Basketball can hope to attract.

Some players that have regressed over 3 years ? There is only one that played under Jordan for 3 years, Lewis. He played okay last year and this year he has been injured. Who are these other players? Williams, Foreman and Daniels have been here 2 years...two have shown some improvement and Daniels....well, Daniels is Daniels, but, I'll give you that one. Laurent and Sanders have improved from game 1.

OK, I will rephrase to Lewis and Daniels (it seems like he's been here forever) have regressed while being coached by Jordan.....as have previous players Seagears, Jack, and Kone,.

Sanders and Laurent (and even Williams) have shown improvement. However, improvement should be expected, stagnation could be accepted, but regression should be considered to be very unusual on most teams.

I love it..."year negative one". I hope by year negative 10, we have a winning season. At least I'm getting younger watching this mess.

really? you don't know that, RU was losing to Wake, SJU, and Creighton with a healthy roster

Try to think without the negative tinted glasses.....Early games were with a young PG and SF. Think about how Sanders, Laurent are playing now and add in a healthy Freeman. That group beats Michigan and Illinois.

Plus, Lewis has not been healthy year.

FIG....If no spots are open is 2017, is that horrible ? It means continuity and players coming back that have played together for a few years. There would be time to get some class balance at some future date.

I give Jordan a pass for the first year, but at the end of the day, you bring in who you want. Look at what Ash is doing with football. He is bringing in exactly who he wants, so theyll play the way he wants them to play. Bringing in smarter players almost always pays off.

You get paid a million dollars not to get passes on years. You bring in who you want, and you coach them the right way. If you do not get results or progress, that is on you.

I've said for 3 years Year 3 would be Year 1. Yes, Rice brought in Mack and Jack and there was zero behind it and its showing. This year was over before it started with all the injuries, combined with the youth.

The season then spiraled out of control and EJ will likely be fired so the majority will get their wish. I don't really care if they fire him as there hasn't been much to hang my hat on but I can guarantee we sign some dude no one has heard of for peanuts as EJs replacement. Regardless of who is coach, this team will be much much better next year. The roster is setup that way.

you do realize that Wake and SJU are even younger than RU and we had 13 point leads on both of them....there is always an excuse isn't there...first its Mike Rice..then its not his players, then its youth, then its Julie, then its facilities, then its injuries
