NJ all state player, 6'8 wing from CBA drilling 10 3 pointers for Lehigh in a game. Plenty of talent in NJ if we can keep some kids home.

6'8" and can shoot ?? Hard to imagine how someone with that height alone wasn't recruited heavily for a P5 school. Did RU even sniff around for this kid ?
His name came up and this board unanimously opined that he was not good enough. Only GW offered from the better conferences though, so I guess those in the business felt the same way. But I see your point -- a 6'8" 225 lb. guy who hit 46% of his threes and scored nearly 2K points in HS maybe should have been given a shot, especially as a CBA local.

This is the exact kind of Steve Novak sniper/specialist we need on our roster. The kind of player that lights us up every game.

I suggested Pat Andree last year. Definitely not an overly athletic Big, but sure can shoot it, and has the basketball IQ we often talk about, basketball is in his DNA as his brothers played, one was walk on at ND I believe

If he was considered a high major talent he would have gone to Notre Dame, both his Dad & Brother played for ND

Slow

He would really struggle defensively in the Big Ten.

He's in a perfect spot IMO-----will have a good career at a good school.

shots were wide open - not sure you get those looks at a higher level.

not for long after making a few anyway. But also can't say he couldn't make them when guarded. 6'8" is tough to defend out there.

Didn't we use to get a couple of guards who could make threes from CBA...I think their name stared with a "B" :)

Everybody knows Rutgers needs 3 point shooters.Getting them to come to Rutgers and stay has been the problem.Fans always ponder how a given player at a lower level school would perform at Rutgers against lower level competition.

Let's slow down. Nobody at our level was offering. He's Playing for LEHIGH against SFU (who are they?). ANY 6-8 player for lehigh will look good. Ever think about what his defense might be like? Playing in the B1G? And after the second three, is he getting off a third?

And don't we already have one local, under-recruited all-stater on the roster? Let's get real.

I sense some condescension here. Let's remember that Lehigh hoops program has been superior to Rutgers for most of the last decade in terms of talent and coaching and accomplishments. That period includes an NBA caliber player (C.J. McCollum) and an NCAA tourney victory over Duke on a non-neutral floor (Greensboro, NC). Lehigh's long history includes coaches who've moved onto bigger, better jobs and notoriety (Pete Carril, Fran McCaffery, Fred's brother Brian Hill, Billy Packer's Dad Tony Packer). And as late as today, even with a loss to Stony Brook, Sagarin rating has Lehigh one notch above Rutgers.

Didn't SFU beat us in the past 2 years

St. Francis (PA) is near the bottom of Division I teams in three-point field goal defense. They make lots of players look like very good three-point shooters.

Lol this season has really put you in a good place. I am happy for that.

You still cannot erase our past 15 seasons, where Lehigh/SFU would give us a battle most nights.

Also, at 6 8, his weaknesses in movement can be a little masked. He is not a guard. Switches he would get absolutely wrecked, though.

A kid that can shoot like this will draw opponents out. He could have been used, but he would not start.Nonetheless, who cares.

Was Coach P recruiting him at Stony Brook?

Ok, I yield. Lehigh is a more desirable program than Rutgers. We should strive to recruit and sign the same type of player that they do. We now have the program we should emulate.

Nothing wrong with that.

Fair enough.

Like a clock. Or in our case an hourglass.

Was Coach P recruiting him at Stony Brook?
Fair question.

You're right - Billy Gilligan could make threes but he transferred to Red Bank Catholic or Regional I think.

Hartford had a a couple of NJs that kept them in the game. FDU has 2 very good NJ players both of which could find time on the Rutgers squad...they were QUICK and could score!!!!!!!:scream:
I believe FDU was the quickest team we have played.

We WILL start keeping these kids at home. Coach P is THE catalyst for Rutgers being THE place to play in the state of NJ, Give him a couple years. I have MORE pride in the team THIS year than any time since Waters was coach. Coach P will GET IT DONE!!!!![cheers]

For years we had teams full of players who allegedly were good shooters but could not get their shot off. Its the rare player - like Douby who get a look and score while being double and at time tripled teamed. Folks are being deceived with the statistics here as well as the level of competition.
