Let's get this conversation rolling again..

Who likes the classy traditional uni's that Schiano developed in the early 2000's?

Who likes the "knight" uni's that look like they were stolen from the set of Any Given Sunday?

Do recruits really want this or do they want a classy, tradition based uniform? If not, how do the SEC and Big Ten teams recruit? I don't believe it helps recruiting.

That being said, I think the red helmets and the modern silver helmets work equally well.

Schiano developed the new uniforms as well in 2011. The new nike uniforms were unveiled spring of 2012 but were developed in 2011 under Schiano's direction.

Nearly every other Power 5 school wears their old school colors and uniforms as their primary uniform. At most, they have very minor tweaks to font and striping.

Our new uniforms with graphic design and theme elements put us in a very small class of P5 teams, with Oregon, ASU, Maryland, Kentucky, and maybe a couple others. The bulk of the teams wearing uniforms in the same realm as our new ones are in the AAC, MAC, MW and other small conferences. While it is true that a lot of P5 schools have a uniform like ours, they are wearing them as alternates.

I cannot think of any school that has abandoned the color they've always worn in their primary uniform like we have. That's the most compelling argument. We should act like a school with some history, and stay true to who we are.

so now that i left it there all ya'll can STFU

That's really pretty meaningless. Certainly not good enough to warrant 2 posts. There is a video on Youtube of players flipping out over every new uniform released by every school for the last 5 years. Doesn't mean they are all the best uniform ever...just means that the players know the expected reaction. People need to stop pretending these uniforms are about anything more than jersey sales and caving to what the corporate sponsors want. We got what we got because we don't have enough clout to push them off. You think they aren't trying to put new uniforms on OSU and UM? Of course they are...those schools just tell them to beat it. Ours will change soon for the same reason... need to keep driving merchandise sales.

RIIIIIIIGGGGHHHTTTT.. is that the reason i haven't bought one yet?.. only an idiot buys a new stuff before the old stuff wears out... the nike pro-combat uni's kick ass .. period.. old uni's sucked... just because YOU don't like them doesn't mean the players don't.. so again STFU and deal with it already

Impressive. At first I was confused by the Tony Soprano/confederate flag combo, but now I get it.

We should:
-Wear the 2011 uniforms on every Homecoming
-Wear white pants and make the silver numbers white on the new red home uniforms
-call it a day

Yep. Yeppity yep yep. Get rid of the scarring, fix the colors, and you've got an awesome uniform there. It just needs color fixes.

I gotta admit, Saturday's uniforms didn't look nearly as nice as I remembered them. Maybe if the helmet and the jersey weren't too different colors.

Now, I don't like the throw-backs or our home salmons. Our white and black unis are both still pretty sweet though.

I would take these, but in our colors (minus the adidas tire tracks and random striping).

Kinda sorta like the two images in my sig.

I personally think the old uni's fit in with the conference much better. Most B1G teams still have old school looking unis. With that said I do like the new ones as well. I would like to see the old ones come out for Home coming... that is a cool idea.

The old ones are old. They sucked. Badly. Stock uniforms that high schools have access to.

What you are saying is, power schools value those that came before them and use "identity" to draw them in, stay in touch and support the school and program for years to come. A sense of home. A sense of tradition. What they did years before meant something.

Well, we need to sell out, throw away everything because what came before wasn't good enough.

(ugh. Bring back the '06 uni's. Its when we were doing good. Not great. But good and respected.)

Yes, because we have such history that is worth hanging on to. We are much closer to Oregon than we are to Alabama.

I don't think the current uniforms are all that terrible really (other than the "scarring," which when you see the uniform up-close just looks like silver glitter, and that's why I never bought one). But the thing with "over styled" uniforms is they have a short shelf life. They look fresh and hot for a short time, but now we've had these for what, 3 seasons? They're played. I think if you go the route of Oregon, Maryland, etc. you need to change the uniforms at least every season. You can't get a fresh look and then wear it out for 2-4 years. If you stay "classic" you can probably get by with keeping the same uniforms for longer periods of time.

Today's kids seem to like the new ones. But then they like a lot of things that are equally tasteless.(this kid likes the Whites and has come to terms with the Black ones).

Rutgers needs to be itself and stop pretending it isn't the founder of college football. So what if the Schiano era uniforms look more fitting in The B1G? We're not trying to be Michigan or Penn State. You know how many uniforms changes Rutgers probably went through since it founded the game? None of the uniforms are tradition. Tradition is nothing but a nickel holding up a dollar. I love what Nike has provided and hope the partnership continues.

I like the Uni's from 2006 the best.

Can someone please explain this obsession with the 2006 uniforms? They're so generic it's ridiculous. It wasn't until the next generation that they even had a block R. 2001-2006 had no block R on the jerseys. The only explanation I can think of is that we won games in the last two years with them, but that's a silly reason.

I do like the Schiano Red's. I think that should be the homecoming uni's.

And while I do like the silver helmets, I'm not a big fan of the same colored pants/jersey which have accompanied the silvers.

And of coarse the unreadable numbers is a major faux pas. No way round that.

Obviously the "new" "cool" uniforms aren't helping recruiting despite all the anecdotes that get trotted out here. Go back to the classic look that makes us look like "Rutgers".

The "Chrome Dome" can become something iconic! We need to find the right man to right the ship. I hope the next coach is a master of the spread-option or read-option.

The new uniforms look like we are some directional university in a 3 electoral vote state. Maybe we should make the field salmon pink too.
Just which one of these directional schools? If you're referring to Western Kentucky, then I have you know, Rutgers did it first.

Faux pas? That's French for F***ed Up, right?

The uniform we wore last week against Kansas, which year or years did
it come from? I thought they were 1000 times better then the new Niki's.

The RUTGERS on the front was big, the names on the back were big, the numbers were big, the block R on the helmets and pants stood out.
We wore black socks and black shoes...bad ass!
