Issa 21:24
Eugene 24:40
Jake D 25:04
Kiss 25:36
Shaq C 26:26
I am mildly (very mild) surprised now that season started that some players would bust it at a 5K race. I am impressed with Issa
I remember looking up the times last year and nerding out because I'm a runner.
Issa ran a 21:14 last year, Kiss ran 23:04. Shaq was over an hour (aka, he walked), Eugene had no time listed.
I still want to know what their actual best times would be, if they ran it truly seriously.
I would imagine most players would easily come in around what Issa ran which equates to just shy of a 7 minute mile
If memory serves me correctly, my daughters, who were nowhere near elite runners, ran about 25-26 minutes in high school, so these are not particulary hard times to do.I know basketball is far more about being explosive but that feels low to me. These are D-1 athletes and 21 minutes is a bad high school 5K time for any sort of serious participant.
Issa ran under 7 minutes that is pretty darn good. During the season players shouldn't go too hard during a race like this.
I coached cross country for 39 years. These are basketball players not distance runners. The main idea is they represented RU in a very worth while event. I am sure that all of these players could have done much better but I know I would not want any of them getting injured trying to run as fast as they could. Let us just be thankful that they represented RU at this 5 K. That is good enough for me. I am proud of all of them plus the coaches and other RU students who entered the event. It is a very worthwhile cause.
