UConn to BIG12?

Uconn - $30M payout to leave BE
Otherwise, they'd jump at the B12 invite for sure - still think they would but that's a big payout to leave
That exit fee would be more than paid for from one years conference distributions. In any event it's payable over four years.

(That said if this thing drags on for a while it drops to $15 million after 2026 and 10 million in in 2029.)

They still should do it, maybe contesting the exit fee anyway

They have to accept. It makes zero sense not to. ..plus I doubt if the Big 12 would offer without knowing they will accept.
UConn gambled it’s football future by joining the big east
The gamble paid off when they immediately got good enough to win it all In basketball
Winning in basketball made them attractive enough for a power conference to take them
Well done on their part
I thought their future was bleak

If true, shows you what has always been true---football rules the roost. And a black eye for Bigeast.

From a fan perspective I have to imagine most are against this. None of them really care about football (even when they were decent)

So now in bball they're gonna play Kansas, Texas Tech, West Virginia et al instead of regional schools they have history with like Villanova and Providence. I'd hate that as a UConn fan

Removal of UConn from the MSG March ticket market is a downgrade for the Big East. On the other hand, UConn playing Kansas, Baylor, Houston, Cincinnati and West Virginia isn't that bad from an exposure or hoops.

If Jim Mora Jr can convince the state of Connecticut to build a real on campus stadium or upgrade the Rent, they have a 10% chance of relevancy. The hoops will suffer, much tougher competition game in and game out, vs playing smaller schools and budgets vs Seton Hall, St John's, DePaul etc.

Gotta take the money, no one cares how many banners you have, if the Big East has poor leadership and no revenue stream.

Has to be hard to leave though if you won a National Championship with the league. Just right….

UConn begged the ACC to take them during the second big east raid

The future looked bad, but again, they found a way
Way better than independent football

You have to realize how delusional Uconn fans are.
I know a Uconn fan who thinks the B12 will divide into East/West to favor the Uconn football team and then add Gonzaga and Villanova and others as a basketball-only division with Uconn in that division for basketball. Thinks they'd be a bowl team in the B12 in 2-3 years.

Plus the BE isn't the old BE - Creighton, Xavier, Marquette, Butler, DePaul - almost half the conference isn't in the East.
UConn = Penn State if they were a basketball school only without the Sandusky level scandal...at least yet.

Wonder if the rest of the B12 will schedule football games in CT in late November. Will be a bit of a culture shock for those TCU kids.

If you want some good info on the Big 12, watch clips of the commissioner's interview on the Big 12 media day. UConn is not on the table for now. It's a media-generated idea during the summer when things are slow. The Big 12 wants to secure its west flank (Pac 12) before they make any other move. UCF and Cincy fill their current need to go east for now.

Quite amazing . They win national titles in hoops and football within 3 years . Gotta give them credit

Of course they have to accept, but what values are you showing when you go down on your knees begging the Big East to take you back and then stab them in the back at the first opportunity. The AG douche bag who wanted to sue the ACC back when, became their U.S. Senator -so I'm not sure you can count on karma to deliver justice.

Where does this football National Championship garbage come from? Sam Houston was the FCS Champs in 2020. UConn did not win anything. D2 Championships were canceled because of Covid in 2020. I saw were someone posted the they were the 2020 champs because the NT Times said so. That does not make them anything.

Some people here continue to talk up a non-story for the sake of it. None of these people can show facts to back their POV. They like to keep sh*t going because it reflects how their lives are going.

They need the money. Connecticut's athletic department deficit was $53 million during the 2022 fiscal year.

No it does not. It is just a local rooting section with no national consenus they are not a good barometer of anything sports. An alumni probably made that call as a joke because they did not lose a game in 2020. They did not play any games either. They won 2 games in 2019/2020 season, and they did not play in 2020/2021 season.

You are right that UConn must accept a total conference offer, and that is pretty much certain

If they have the big12 offer in hand, they could try to reach out to the ACC one last time, before accepting the big 12

Probably would be a no, but I would do that first, since the ACC would be much better for them overall. Not so much comparing power of the teams, but playing in your area against familiar foes and more local ones
A better fit

Big 12 would be damaging to a lot of UConn's Olympic sports unless they are allowed to park sports like soccer and field hockey in the BE...and something tells me the BE won't be cool with doing that after leaving.

Getting their football team in a power conference outweighs everything else

With the big 12 they have a good bb conference to boot

They aren’t going to worry so much about the fringe sports and they would leave the big east totally with little regret

$63M in renovations/upgrades to the 20-year-old Rent needed

I'd imagine there would be infrastructure problems with building an arena with a capacity of 40K+ on Campus.
Hard to see the roads to Storrs supporting that
Upgrades to the football
Stadium would be a tough sell, unless they were in a FB conference

I would think even the biggest UConn FB fan would not claim a FB national championship
But if you want to, carry on!
They were 2-10 for the 2019/2020 season. They did not play 2020/2021 season so anyone standing by the validity of the NYT "tongue and cheek" article is misinformed(unaware of the record) or nuts. I'll go with nuts for Plum
