UPDATE: Hartsfield to Ole Miss

Regardless of what we think of this young man, I believe he is better off somewhere else. Knowing how the SL operates neither Hartsfield or Rutgers will be treated fairly and neither one can afford that. sad but true

I would take him if he can compete on the track team, kid is a national class triple jumper too. One would have to think he was scared straight. Who among us hasn't done something really stupid at one point in our lives? And does anyone really know what transpired or what his involvement was? You can't go by what was reported in the SL early on.

IMO we should leave it up to the coaches. I have not seen a post here by someone who actually knows the young man personally, so I don't imagine anyone really knows what kind of character this young man has. People, especially young people, are heavily influenced by their peers. Everyone makes mistakes, so we do not know if whatever mistakes he may have made were due to character flaws or to just dumb choices. We have no idea how heavily involved he was with any of it.

I used to trust our coaches to carefully determine the character of our potential recruits, but now I am not so sure. I believe they still do, but the guys who got into trouble ended up as part of a clique of "bad seeds" I am hoping that group has been dissolved or forced to move elsewhere.

Lots of speculation< I know.

Can't put my finger on this idea...something doesn't smell right here with him coming? Why not somewhere else?

Testing the water for reactions?

Do we actually know what he did?

It is alleged that he was a ringleader in hazing/sexually assaulting freshmen football players in the locker room after practice on a number of occasions along with other upperclassmen from the Sayreville FB team.

It's possible that the reason he wasn't convicted is because the victims did not want to face a trial to substantiate the charges. One can imagine the peer pressure on the victims if they took the case to trial, also the possible threat of retaliation from some of the upperclassmen and their parents if they pursued the case.

Flood has always said that RU FB has a no hazing policy. Yet we would offer a kid who clearly was involved in hazing and possibly a lot more while in HS ?

Where did you see or hear he was the ring leader? I have not.

Good question.
One thing to have been involved, which is bad enough, but even worse if it's true and not just an accusation being thrown out about being one of the ringleaders.
All I could find out was that all the ringleaders were supposed to be seniors , but none of the seniors on the team were named . So unless someone has proof, no one really knows who the ringleaders are, only that it was said they were some of the seniors on the team.

Hartsfield even though a team captain can only be assumed to be a ringleader because of that position, but that doesn't mean he was.
But feel it's best for him to go out of state , making it easier to put this trouble behind him and move on to another chapter in his young life.

Looks like the Carroo episode again. People take rumors from their "sources", treat it as fact and make a mountain off a mole hill. Absolutely pathetic. You should be ashamed off yourselves. You guys never stop. Just STFU. If you want to gossip like a bunch off old hags, go join TMZ. I'm especially looking at you @Knightmoves :chairshot:

Guys...lets not involve ourselves in politics...the coachs know better than us and its their butts on the line.

Nice try. I know a lot of people from Sayreville including one of the FB coaches who was with the program for a number of years. Where do you get your information ?

Without a doubt, a new setting, a break from the past = best move. There was simply no way that certain media outlets would have genuinely allowed this young man to move on.

I was sure this guy was gonna end up at Penn St.....seems like a perfect match.

Probably the best move for him. Most of their fans won't bat an eye about this, especially since he was 'cleared'. We & PSU couldn't/wouldn't touch him based on our recent history, while he'll get his second chance without too much of a dark cloud above his head. It'll be interesting to see how the SL will treat him if he performs well there.

Good luck to him. Getting away makes a lot of sense. Don't see the Oxford Gazette (or whatever) making his background a front page story. It will be more about height, weight and 40 time.

I as gonna say if he was my child I would want hm removed from the peers and area that could influenced him into poor decisions.
Good for him at ole miss. I hope he exceeds his dreams and desires

Didn't even make the recruiting in the Oxford Eagle

Agreed. I absolutely hate this. Flood's recent track history of giving out second chances makes me nervous that they are considering offering him. The second chances given to Barnwell and Peele were a disaster. This could be another. Just stay away.
It seems Flood lost control of the team, notjust arrests, but from what some people stated was the culture of the team... Players not respecting coaches and rules, etc.

If Ash can truly set the culture again and be able to lead effectively, i see no reason to not take MH, as long as he knows and accepts the expectations and the coaching staff upholds those expections not just to MH but to everyone

Need you asl....Of course SL will write an entire article about another kid in our own backyard we couldnt get to play for us.

Fantastic news. Ol' Miss will get a serviceable player and nj.com can only reference, "Former Rutgers recruit, Myles Hartfield," when he screws up again.

it is probably in his best interest to get away from this area. While he may not be at fault and we want to give him a 2nd chance he will have to deal with looks on campus from the regular students. Some of the kids that were potentially hazed by him may be regular students on campus and may spread information about him. Plus we dealt with off field issues last off season and can't risk it again.

Why go to a school where there are 20-50 fellow Sayreville students that may spread information / rumors about him while he can go to the SEC 1000 miles away where he may be the only Sayreville student and 95% of the undergrads will have no clue about the situation he went through in HS.

Kid is a major talent, you fellas haven't been paying attention to what Freeze has been building down there......major talent he's been bringing in over the years

Freeze is doing a great job and Hartfield is a great get for Ole Miss, but Hartfield would be facing too much scrutiny if he went to Rutgers and the local media would be trying to use anything he said or did to make Rutgers look bad for giving him a chance.
It's best that Myles gets a fresh start and that could only happen if he went out of state like he did.
