Not necessarily. Still need more than 2 contributorsLike many have said, 2-3 yrs of subpar recruiting and portal issues have us where we R today. Next year that will change.
roster management and recruiting woes from the past 3 yearsMore explosive and has better shooters at every position. And it's not even close. What has ur coach done wrong? How has he failed?
This is not an excuse. The roster isn't well put together but it was also expected that Cam and Mulcahy were going to be here. They're worth 3 more wins already this year imo.
Let’s look at it both ways. Pike losing Cam and Paul after the portal closed for undergrads left him in a tough position. He was thinking those 2 with Noah and Derek makes the team a position of strength and JMike can watch and learn. After Paul and Cam are gone , he settled for an injured Austin and a suspended J. Williams . Noah has not flourished , Austin is just getting healthy and has limitations and JWill has not played. This is not an excuse.
Cam and Paul both could have optioned to play in Europe this season and you’re putting a lot of value in Cam’s loyalty given he was a rental for us.
Even with the thought that they would be here, you still need solid backups for when they go to the bench with the thought that they would take over the following year.
The guard drop off is significant. All of these guys are early Pike year guards.
That’s a really bad thing given we’re in year 8(9?).
But what we have is a bunch of role players at guard. Typically that's what your bench is made of to spell your starters which would have been Cam and Paul. That is unless you're Duke or Kentucky having a bunch of 4 and 5 stars coming off your bench. This is not an excuse.

Haha, exactly. He's a Dbag Penn State fan. What is your favorite team ImBadRU (OP)? Clearly a troll, did you forget to switch accounts/which one you’re posting on, saying “your coach” not “our coach”?

Now should Pike have gone out immediately and gotten the best guard in the portal. Probably yes and a failure there.
But I laid out what he thought the bench would be and it is not what he thought.
You guys are missing the point here. I understand things didn’t break well. But what we have is a bunch of role players at guard. This JO has been here for years . He’s a troll who is a PED State fanboy.PSU lover who pretends to be a Rutgers fan.
He’s a troll - 99% of his threads are negative and then he usually never comes back into the thread to converse about the topic he starts.
It’s not automatic that they leave for the NBA. It’s a team game and if the rest of the roster is sub-par they will have a tough go of it.You guys are missing the point here. I understand things didn’t break well.
My issue is that Paul and Cam were done after this year regardless, and there’s no one in the pipeline to replace them.
Yes, there’s Ace and Dylan. They’re one and done, and you don’t bank the foundation of your program on landing them.
To me, we don’t have a guard on the team right now that will take over for when Ace and Dylan leave for the NBA.
That’s the issue.
He lost his most athletic recruit to one of his long time assistants. Two starts left after the portal closed.Pike really shit the bed this season.
And the death blow to add to that was the unexpected 11th-hour departure of Spencer - the best offensive player on a team desperate for offense. I think we have a couple more W‘s and a chance at the post season of Cam had stayed.roster management and recruiting woes from the past 3 years
Ace is essentially a lock already, and honestly might go #1. Harper seems like he’s there as well. It’s not automatic that they leave for the NBA. It’s a team game and if the rest of the roster is sub-par they will have a tough go of it.
Wolf a disappointment and and we don’t know what we’re getting with Sommerville either
Next year’s team still needs a few more pieces…..
He had 2 players stab him in the back with no portal options remaining. Already difficult in a pure transition yearPike really shit the bed this season.
This is extremely common in recruiting. A player is going to go to the school they feel most confident in.Ndongo … reversing course did not help at all. So when people say , “that’s what attracts players …Pikiell’s demeanor”. In that case he was more loyal to our former assistant who left.
Woolfolk is a perfectly fine backup big man who should be playing 8-10 minutes a game but has been playing 15 minutes a game.I’m less harsh on Pike about Wolf because I see the potential and big guys are generally projects.
The guard thing is just tough for me
He seems slimmer and more easily pushed around than I remember last year, but I could be wrong.Woolfolk is a perfectly fine backup big man who should be playing 8-10 minutes a game but has been playing 15 minutes a game.
And why hasn’t he been banned?PSU lover who pretends to be a Rutgers fan.

This. Saying this is all due to recruiting is disingenuousAnd Ndongo... that would have been a good team
Things all broke poorly for RU this year. It happens
I don’t see Somerville getting bullied even by older players or dirty players . No question they will try early on . Suggestion to Pikiell… toughen them up summer ball in the city.Ace is essentially a lock already, and honestly might go #1. Harper seems like he’s there as well.
My question with Harper is he looks like a full grown man playing vs High School kids. Curious to see how that translates and how dealing with larger guards impacts him.
Either way, if they do come back it’s because they’re no longer viewed as lottery picks. Would they really stay an additional year because they fell to the 20ish pick in the draft?
Keep in mind, the NBA generally drafts off potential nowadays.
Somerville I’m actually very excited for. He is the sleeper to me that makes all of this work.
That’s a wonderful question and perhaps one day IBRU will be put on a timeout or maybe it’s just all our imaginations? And why hasn’t he been banned?

Well when they do box out and attack the glass we have a chance to win but too often we look lost when the shot goes up. It’s not about elevation , jumping ability . It’s Anticipating where the shot will come off , quickness , attitude … there have been a number of players who thought they could only jump off the ground 6 inches were good rebounders. If you can due all of that then you will generate respect.Feel like bigger stronger quicker is still no excuse for zero boxing out. This team just watches the ball when it goes up. I’d rather see them get pushed under the rim, perhaps get an over the back call … but it’s non existent. Cliff does it too. Expect in many cases he can out jump another player.
