USA Today B1G Preview

We are the Rodney Dangerfields of the B1G.
Surprised at their QB ranking.
The Michigan lovefest is evident in their QB ranking where they place Michigan's two QBs above Leidner and Lunt. Also interesting to see McSorley ahead of Leidner and Lunt.

Why "surprised"? OSU does have the top QB in the conference. The guy finished 5th in Heisman voting 2 years ago and had to split time last year.

Not much to complain about as a PSU fan. I think one of our WRs will be All B1G so we'll also have to see how that pans out. I also think we have a shot at having the best RB unit in the B1G.

Having Haskins on the list is dumb IMO. He's not going to see the field and will have zero impact. Also not sure how you put OSU's DL over Michigan's.

Thought your WR/TE combination should have been ahead of Nebraska.

Problem with TE is that Gesicki has been all hype at this point. I have never seen a kid drop so many wide open, uncontested throws. He was an absolute killer last season. I don't know if Hack ever threw him a bad ball and he would just flat out drop them. The one against OSU was a real game changer. I'm not saying we would have won but he needed to make that catch.

Look at #41's face and you'll know how wide open he was.

Notice how many OSU players (who are actually playing) are in those three pictures.

Our WRs are legit and we're hearing a lot of good stuff about Johnson, Charles and even Blacknall (no flame). We're unproven at TE but lots of youth their and substantial hype about the true Fr kid from the NE.

They've got Maryland 44 spots ahead of us...lol.

Gesicki and Blacknall are from my neck of the woods. Hope they have better seasons, but not on Nov. 19.

Honestly don't know what the deal is with Gesicki and actually feel bad for him. From all accounts the kid puts a ton of time in with the JUGS and just can't translate it to the field.

This is OT, but are you guys seeing bigger DL being recruited with Ash at the helm?

Not up on our targets, but don't think we have one DL commit in the 2017 class.
We actually have two DL commits, a DT (Duggan) and a DE (Tverdov). We're in the top 3 for Fred Hansard (big-time DT) but many think he's Florida-bound, and we are also in good position for Corey Bolds (another highly-ranked DT). Also in very good position for Brendan Bordner (Ohio DE). All are plenty big.

My bad. Don't know what I was looking at.

So know matter what first time starter gets named at UM, they are expected to be the 4th best QB in the league [eyeroll]. Give me a break. Lunt is way to low.

Ash is targeting larger DT's. No more 250lbs DT's in the foreseable future. Only one DT is currently committed for '17.

From a PSU perspective, I'd have ranked our RBs number one, put Chris Godwin as an all-conference choice at WR, and either Brandon Bell or Jason Cabinda as an all-league pick at LB. Michigan/PSU probably have the best WR/TE groups in the league ahead of Nebraska. Ultimately these pieces, while fun to read, don't mean much.

Is Cabinda that good? Saw him play in high school and thought he was good but All-B1G good at LB is incredible, and he's only in his 3rd year in the program. Huge miss from Flood; we've currently got two walk-ons on the two-deep at LB...

Problem with our LBS is they can't stay on the field. No beef from me at LB.

He was named honorable mention All-B1G by the coaches and media last season, when he led the team and ranked 15th in the conference with 7.7 tackles per game.

FWIW, Bruce Feldman ranked PSU's linebackers as the ninth best in the country heading into this season. The starters - Cabinda, Brandon Bell, and Nyeem Wartman-White - are legit. The issue will be health, as PSU is relying on a former walk-on, two true sophomores, and a host of other underclassmen to provide depth.

Remember the recruitment of Cabinda, Bell, and Wartman well. We were in it with all of them...Sigh.

it was just a dumb article about somebody who appears to know nothing about the b10.
michigan qb should not be rated that high. the number 1 oline should be iowa. they are predicted to have the number 1 oline in the country by espn. osu does not have the number 1 dline after losing 3 starters. michigan is ranked to have the number 1 dline in the country

Our existing DL have certainly been encouraged to be bigger. Hamilton went from 265 last year to 286 for media day as one example. As of April, the starting DL went from a 273.8 lb average to a 277.5 lb average, and I know they've been working to add weight since then, too. They'll probably average out around 280 when the season starts. Several of the newcomer backups have also added 15-20 pounds.

I think he also ranked MSU like 3rd or fourth. And yet, not a single LB (Riley Bullough or Ed Davis) are on this list. Very weird.

Are you concerned that they are injury prone? It would be a shame if they were.

I recall seeing John O'Korn play for Houston in his freshman year in the Rutgers homecoming game and thought he played great. Michigan got a very good quarterback.

Are you concerned that they are injury prone? It would be a shame if they were.

Wartman-White had minor injuries his freshman and sophomore seasons, and is returning from an ACL injury suffered against Temple in the opener that cost him essentially all of the 2015 season. He actually could petition the NCAA to play a sixth year in 2017, but that decision hasn't been made at this point.

Bell missed a couple of games last season and dealt with ankle and shoulder injuries.

I'd agree with you on the RBs. I'm not sure Wisky's running backs are even better than Northwestern's. Justin Jackson continues to get no respect at NU (1,400 yards rushing last year with virtually no passing game to take people out of the box against him).

Some people think Flood did far better with what he had.

Most know Edsall did far less than what he had. If you look at our recruiting classes and wins it is horrible. A good coaching staff will make Maryland look like some amazing turn around when in fact we were severely underplaying.

Some people think Flood did far better with what he had..

You will not find many of those people here on Scarlet Nation. However, beating Michigan and Maryland in 2014 could provide that perception. Or was it your old Coach Friedgen who was the man behind the curtain that made 2014 a fairly decent season? A look at RUs 2015 season points to Friedgen having a key role in the 2014 success--or at least doing a great job with Gary Nova.

Where is Rutgers? Are we ranked 15th?

EAST

1. Ohio State (No. 3)

2. Michigan (No. 7)

3. Michigan State (No. 14)

4. Penn State (No. 50)

5. Maryland (No. 65)

6. Indiana (No. 89)

7. Rutgers (No. 109)

WEST

1. Nebraska (No. 25)

2. Wisconsin (No. 27)

3. Iowa (No. 29)

4. Northwestern (No. 53)

5. Minnesota (No. 72)

6. Illinois (No. 101)

7. Purdue (No. 120)

Although the it's been civil anyone question why there are equal or more posts about PSU players by PSU posters?

I only glanced over it but did the writer not get the memo stating every football article should have at least one paragraph solely devoted to Peppers?

yea as a true freshmen he threw for 3000 yards and 28 td and he could be on this list after the season but at this point he has not taken a snap at michigan and there are other guys who have started multiple years at current school who should be mention first

Rutgers dropped to rock bottom, Maryland rose as they predict that Maryland will beat both Indiana and Rutgers and that Indiana will beat RU. It might be a long season if what they predict is right. I just don't believe them though. I think we will beat Penn State Maryland Indiana and maybe another B1G team.
