USA Today B1G Preview

Furthermore them predicting us at 109 is pretty insulting. That means they think there are only 19 teams worse than us.

Not much to complain about as a PSU fan. I think one of our WRs will be All B1G so we'll also have to see how that pans out. I also think we have a shot at having the best RB unit in the B1G.

Having Haskins on the list is dumb IMO. He's not going to see the field and will have zero impact. Also not sure how you put OSU's DL over Michigan's.

Hubbard is going to be a 1st round draft pick

Do not get the love for Indiana in some magazines, lost their QB and their defense is still bad. Only made bowl because they get Purdue every year.

F'...ing BS. Typical dis by national media about RU football.
I both 2 preseason mags on College Football for a read on a very long flight ( Athlon & Street) and threw in the garbage right after I landed. The dire predictions and perceived collapse of the program made me sick. BS.

CBS Sports released their top 128 yesterday. They have Rutgers at No. 111. So either a lot of people are going to be very wrong or RU is going to be very bad.

Cool story.
Let's look at the teams ranked ahead of RU on CBS Sports list. The list is laughable.

I never said they were correct. Don't shoot the messenger. :uzi:

C'mon with that Old Dominion comment, though. You must know they have a program because they were one of the few that Flood beat consistently for recruits.

Not shooting the messenger, just the message. Never paid attention enough to be aware of Old Dominion football. The list is stupid. They should just stop at the top 25 or maybe 50.

Coach Fudd set our program back many years.....have not seen rankings so bad since Terry Shea's last year's.
Ash will get us back in time.

Some people think Flood did far better with what he had.

Most know Edsall did far less than what he had. If you look at our recruiting classes and wins it is horrible. A good coaching staff will make Maryland look like some amazing turn around when in fact we were severely underplaying.

Disagree 100%. Flood did not do better than the talent. Maryland hasn't been really good since the early 2000's, so I am not buying the underplaying part.

Manahawkin is your neck of the woods? I thought you lived in Rumson. That's 50 miles away.

That's like someone in New Brunswick saying Paterson is in their neck of the woods.
It's heartwarming that you keep tabs on me. My woods has a big neck.
Definition of "neck of the woods"-- a region. The shore region or Monmouth/Ocean County regions are regions. Southern Regional in Manahawkin plays team in Northern Ocean County and Monmouth County--in the same neck of the woods. OK?
From Southern Monmouth/Ocean Counties, and will be returning there in the near future. I'll update you on my address and vital information when I make a move.

Of this list I will give South Carolina, Virginia (Mendenhall is good) and yes even Cuse (Babers MIGHT be good and they will score points) the benefit of the doubt. I fully anticipate us to beat Illinois and New Mexico at home and those are the only two we get to prove on the field. I'd say we at least belong in the 80's to start. Funny how there are schools that still get ranked in the preseason based on what they did 30+ years ago but no one is willing to even look back TWO years ago for us.

You will not find many of those people here on Scarlet Nation. However, beating Michigan and Maryland in 2014 could provide that perception. Or was it your old Coach Friedgen who was the man behind the curtain that made 2014 a fairly decent season? A look at RUs 2015 season points to Friedgen having a key role in the 2014 success--or at least doing a great job with Gary Nova.

Fridge would have sold his soul to beat us, i chalked up that game as a loss as soon as he was hired.

My second sentence explains the surprise. Michigan's QB and McSorley ahead of Leidner and Lunt? That's ridiculous.
You would have said the same thing about Rudock last year. Unlike Rudock, both O'Korn and Speight have actually been in the system for a year plus whereas Rudock was only here two months before the first game.

I don't expect Speight or O'Korn to match Rudock's production because it was very solid and to expect an unknown is silly. But to completely rule it out when we already seen it just last year is also silly. I think it is fair to assume either QB would produce near the level of how Jake Rudock did (minus his first 3 games where he wasnt very good) and if that's the case it would be right in the top 3-4 QB's of the B1G. Not to mention with targets like Butt, Darboh and Chesson combined with the most experienced OL in the B1G, any QB should do just fine and much better than most in the conference.

They are predicting where they end up.

Is Rutgers actually worse and would lose to most of these teams head to head? No.

But if Rutgers does go 3-9 or whatever they're predicting they will be thrown under some 5-7 MAC teams or whatever.

On the polls that have RU looking so bad, only way to prove them wrong is for Rutgers' play on the field prove that the Scarlet Knights are far better that the pre-season pollsters claim they are.

As for being the worst FB program in the B1G East, until the Scarlet Knights prove on the field that they are better than that, my opinion of them being 4th-5th is only an opinion.
Heck you can put me down as claiming ( right now) RU is the 8th best FB team in the B1G, not #13 like the (No. 109) ranking makes it look like.
But the Rutgers FB team has to prove me right , no one should accept my biased opinion
just because I say Rutgers Football is better than the pre-season pollsters and fans of other schools say it is.

Scarlet Covered Glasses , you can bet your sweet bippy I'm wearing them when I think of how RU FB will do.
I'll let others feel the need to be negative about RU FBs chances this season, I stay optimistic and claim Bowl baby is what's happening [banana]:cool2::pray:

EVERY QB played great against Rutgers in 2013.
That's true but that year ( if I recall correctly) the AAC had a number of fine QB's that went high in the NFL draft. That being said, the DB scheme for Rutgers was horrible.

It was a murderer's row. O'Korn, Bortles (UCF), Garrett Gilbert (SMU), a gimpy Teddy Bridgewater, Brandon Kay (Cincinnati). But we held the fort down against USF, saving Kyle Flood's job (maybe it was saved before the game)--and we got bobbleheads.

This is OT, but are you guys seeing bigger DL being recruited with Ash at the helm?
This would make sense.

Under GS.. in the Big East.. we could have that smaller fast DL and handle those spreads we'd see better and the one or two times we'd see some team with a massive OL, we could scheme them a bit.

But in the B1G TEN? We see massive OLs nearly every game. Our smaller DL can get wore down as the season goes by. That same thing happened to us in the early 80s when we began playing Pitt, WVU, Penn State, BC, Syracuse every year.. we'd compete early, maybe beat a couple of these guys, then in November we'd get crushed. Injuries and lack of depth and just wore down elevens..

I'd like to see a flexible DL with depth where we can go small and fast or big and run-stopping.. but few teams can do that... do it well at least.

I'm sure you will under Ash we put all DEs in for obvious passing downs.
