Very Disappointed in Response to Kill Hire

Well on social media and the press the response is 99% positive.

Most people are either very please with the hire, I mean this is the one of the biggest names to ever be OC here at Rutgers.

Others are willing to give him a shot since they just don't know enough to say one way or another. Which makes sense.

The people who don't like it were just waiting for any name to be announced so they could try to discredit it.

It's not an ideal hire by any objective stretch of the imagination

I am skeptical about the hire. Here is my reason. To compete successfully against the top 4-5 teams in the big 10 (OSU, Mich, Wisc, Mich State), the only PROVEN way to win is what Penn State did to Wisconsin. Win by 1) scoring lots of points and 2) with North South passing. This is how PSU beat Wisky. Kill is a run first guy. He has never been known as a coach with a prolific passing game. Penn State has developed an excellent passer with great north south receivers. I DONT CARE WHAT TYPE OF OFFENSE IT IS. It must have a downfield passing attack to beat a Wisconsin. Trying to win with a run oriented scheme against these teams has not been effective in the modern era. It is about points points points and passing passing passing. This is not Mr. Kill.

Gee, shocker! Once again:

3 of 4 teams in this year's playoff throw the ball "EAST-TO-WEST" which helps set up bigger passing plays downfield. You just refuse to understand this!

The foundation for the passing in the offense that Mehringer/Houston/Kill run is based on gaining large yardage in non 3rd down situations with East West passing. Many tens--like San Diego State-- have easily figured this out. Keep the corners tight. Making QBs do in that offense what they don't like to do--throw the ball downfield--is the key to winning. The Houston east west game was completely stuffed, and the Houston QB was forced into downfield throws that resulted in a multiple interception game. Throw the ball downfield like Penn State did---and it produced 30 plus points and a win.

If you are married to a spread, then use a Baylor pass-happy spread. Throw the ball EVERYWHERE. Not the Mehringer spread.

We just hired and OC whose QB's at Minnesota, IIRC, never ran for less than 600 yards on the season. GET OVER IT!!! Ugh...anyway...this is a GREAT hire and the media, everywhere, seems to agree. He ran a very similar O, as to what we want to run here, very successfully at Southern Illinois. Please relax my friend. [thumb2]

Read this, please:

“I wanted a guy that had a similar offensive philosophy from we have already established, that did not want to go completely away from what we have done and what our players know. I think what he is going to be able to do is some similar things, but also enhance it and make it better and do an outstanding job of tailoring the offense to fit the skillset of the players we have; someone who can also develop our quarterbacks.”

Lol he established an offensive philosophy at RU lol? Doing "similar things?"...don't want to go away from "what we have done". Ash's quote is silly. Number 128 out of 128 in yards per game and 127 out of 128 in points per game. Of course he wants to "enhance it", can't get any worse. I guess I have to believe cause in North Korea and in Rutgers football, the leader/coach is always right. Best wishes, Coach. You are right about everything. End of this commentary.

You really just don't get how un-talented our roster currently is, do you?

Even without Grant, this should have been a 4-5 win team. Multiple factors--all discussed on this board to the extreme--of which I agreed with--were coaching related. I will just list them: because discussing them is beyond ludicrous. My views may be completely opposite to yours, but
1. Not using a pro set.
1. Not using Rettig (in a pro set)
2. Having Laviano start half the season
3, The worst play calling ever seen on the banks. And I go back to Frank Burns.
4. Not using Martin and Hicks as the premier backs when healthy.

Of course--and this is pure speculation--but if the above changed in the direction I had hoped--pro set, Rettig at QB, Martin and Hicks, throw it 30-40 times a game in a pro set--we win 4-5 games--with this talent. I blame all of the above on coaching. You don't. I respectfully disagree. But we will never know. Can't change the past.

I love this hire. FRidge 2.0

Don't forget Ash is a newbie head coach so he is gaining so much more than a play caller here

Yawn. Your never happy. Just miserable. Pretty pathetic.
not sure what you are referring to but I'll take a realistic and cautious view vs. what we've seen too often around here

that said, your post is somewhat of an uninitiated attack no? I called you no names, made no inferences to your demeanor or capabilities here

Bad news...

It seems that Kill owns several examples of these:

You really don't pay attention. At all. I give up.

This guy knows FB in and out, defense and offense. He has seen it all. We needed an adult on staff. He will do much more with these players than anyone else. Home run hire. So many negative people on this board. I'm jumping up and down personally.
You are really going to be jumping up and down
when he takes Ashes place after this coming season.
