Not sure who the head of S&C was but hopefully he will be replaced by someone with BiG experience. What was clear to me in the last two years is that our players were not as stout in the lower body as their BiG
competition. This is a critical change for Coach Ash. I hope he nails it.

Anyone who uses the word stout in S/C should not be taken seriously! Worry about your own job not someone else.

Ash spoke to a recruit about S&C. Sounds like he has a plan

"Ash also began to open up about his plans for the coaching staff.

"He told me he was going to try to get a new coaching staff and he said that the linebackers coach would most likely be the defensive coordinator, as well," said Manning. "And he said that the new strength and conditioning staff he has coming in will make sure I'm getting bigger, stronger, faster and more flexible at the same time."

No problems with Cole being let go but can we be realistic as to "how we looked against the B1G". It's not like our recruits were huge and withered away. When you sign kids who weigh 260 you can't really expect them to be 310 as sophomores.

We never wanted anyone to be too big. Other teams were recruiting the same size kids and developing them. NJ kids like Penn State Austin Johnson added 50 pounds and Boston College DT Connor Wujciak added 50 pounds. I never saw anyone on Rutgers add more than 30 pounds and in most instances no more than10-20 pounds. I think it's almost impossible to not add 10-20 pounds in 4 years in college.

Flood started to recruit the hidden gems 2 stars 350-360 pounds linemen and put them on a diet to get to 290-310. We had the experience shrinking the size of players.

Stout is a bad word?

Flood loves it at least....

I'm a little teapot short and stout.
Here is my handle.
Here is my spout.
When I get all steamed up,
Hear me shout!
Just tip me over
And pour me out

I'm a clever teapot, yes it's true.
Here's an example of what I can do.
I can turn my handle to a spout.
Just tip me over and pour me out

Don't think your correct!
"Strength and conditioning coach Jeremy Cole was also fired by Ash, according to two people with knowledge of the situation. Cole became Rutgers' head football strength coach in 2012 after four years as an assistant. Cole earned $127,562 annually."

I guess all of those weightlifting records set this past off season didn't mean anything. It showed on the field.

Not a popular subject but big name schools with huge budgets have S&C who push the envelope. They're paid extremely well because they're always ahead of the curve. I'm not referring to steroids, but instead other performance enhancing drugs that come in cocktail form which help you train and play with more intensity. Frankly, our O-Linemen looked lethargic at times. Ash knows the difference between thoroughbreds and draft horses.

You sure love posting about taking shortcuts. There are supplements that are legal by the NCAA. But please lets avoid anything illegal, this is Rutgers. We do not need that kind of press.

Like what? Everyone knows what supplements are allowed & what to avoid. We just had drug testing questions & you now want them to start taking BALCO's cream & clear? No thanks, Lattimer.

I don't make this sh#t up. He got jammed up giving DH the wrong exercise plan.
What plan did he give him & what should it have been?

My dad used to say he's put together well.

See nothing wrong with "stout" as a descriptive adjective. I would say that Yogi may well have been considered stout and it seemed to work out pretty well for him.

NCAA does not do (or at least dating back to 2013) did not do blood testing for NCAA athlete drug tests. Need I say more?

you know it's funny you mention that I'm always talking about short cuts. Perhaps my response is a bit off topic but I think it touches on reality. I love watching 30 for 30 on ESPN. They often do documentary's on storied programs like Notre Dame, University of Colorado, Alabama, the "U", USC and yes, OSU. You know what find to be rather peculiar is that each and every one of those documentary mentions "shortcuts". Whether directly or indirectly each program mentioned won at LEAST one National Championship because of leverage resulting from a "shortcut". I'm not advocating cheating, I'm advocating that we drop The holier than thou persona and start playing college football. Fair enough?

Lets not bash Flood on the size of our lineman. Schiano obviously had a preference for smaller lineman which Flood inherited. Flood was definitely recruiting to increase the size of both lines. Was it where it needs to be? Probably not yet, but it was heading in that direction. Plenty of other things to be critical about Flood.

I believe Bobby stated Cole was the first to be let go.

What short cuts did USC take?

Off the top of my head Heeman, Bateky, and Hamilton are all at least 30 pounds heavier than they were when they came in. Lumpkin maybe. I agree RU still appears to need to be bigger especially when the backups need to play. That's where I see a big difference.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I know more about college FB S&C than you do._

Don't go too far out on that limb if your too stout it will break! We don't know your name so you may or may not be correct in knowing more. Have a great day!

The issue with our S&C program isn't whether our kids could lift a car or whether they look like goliaths. The issue is our injury rate went up ever since Jay Butler left.

Not saying you make stuff up but Coach Cole is at work, so your source is weak. He may not be there for the season but he is right now.

I can't speak for everyone but our O-Linemen need to be stronger, quicker and frankly aggressive. Our D-Line and LB's are so undersized I'm not sure they can help. I do see promise in our safeties and CB's. I honesty believe if trained and developed properly we are going to have a very good secondary. But like I said when Ash was first hired everything is going to come down to recruiting.
