Was moving to the B10 good for R & Maryland?

"Rutgers’ new five-year projections plan shows a dramatic increase in those figures. The Big Ten is now expected to give Rutgers $12.6 million in 2017, $24.6 million in 2018, $27.1 million in 2019 and $29.4 million in 2020.

Since full-share schools are set to receive $51.1 million from the Big Ten this year, it’s fair to assume that conference-distribution number will only increase in 2021.

However, Rutgers won’t receive that much.

Rutgers’ first full-share check from the Big Ten is projected to be $44.5 million."

Wouldn't all the other teams get the same full-share check if everyone gets an equal slice of the pie?

I don’t want to be playing against shitty programs. Love the fact that we are playing so many big name programs . We need time to grow into the league of course. You did not expect a program like ours to just be beating Ohio states and Michigan s of the world right away ?
Hehehe

Remarkable that people in the media still question this. Even some Rutgers people do as well. How can any reporter/writer analyze this and come to the conclusion that it was a bad move is beyond me. Obviously don’t have two neurons for synapses to transmit. Journalists - people supposedly trained to think critically - hokey dip-wads.

What makes you think that journalists were trained to think critically? They were trained that the only important thing is to attract readers and viewers.

Is making tens of millions more every year while being associated with some of the best schools in the country and having our own network a good thing?

No, we'd rather be scraping by playing Uconn on the Ocho. Much more desirable.

Cmon, Dawg....

Everyone wants to play on the Ocho. Michigan was scheduled last yr, but we got bumped for the regional Dodgeball game. [roll]

Utterly ridiculous. It is had a major positive impact on the university everywhere but in the football win-loss column. Yes, football in the B1G is the window dressing but a look behind the curtains shows nothing but good thing have happened since we joined and looking down the road.

It's not surprising that a lot of average corn fed middle western college sports fans think because Rutgers/Maryland hasn't won a lot means it was a bad move.

It is surprising when people who get paid for a living to talk, or write, about sports say the same stupid stuff.

Nobody that understands the money involved at the league or network offices is having any regrets.

Anybody that claims to be a Rutgers fan and doesn't see to long range positive impact across the program and university needs to reflect and rethink.

Was it a good idea for UConn to leave the AAC? Fair question.
Was it a good idea for Rutgers to join the Big 10? Sorry, this is not a real question.

Your first question makes your answer to the second question automatic. The AAC signed a $1 billion, 12-year deal with ESPN that goes into effect in 2020. This deal translates to an extra $2 million for each school over the current deal. But ESPN has a clause that allows them to renegotiate if a team leaves. That means ESPN will likely have some input on what school replaces UConn, if any. 11 team conferences cannot hold a Conference Championship Game without a waiver from the NCAA as I recall because you either need 12 or more schools split into two divisions OR 10 teams playing in a round robin format. The NCAA may want teams in the AAC to play 10 conference games to meet the round robin format in order to grant the waiver. This board would be engulfed in flames if we were still in the AAC.

Who wouldn't love watching the Tulsa's, Tulane's and ECU's of the world march into Piscataway every year. Such history and tradition. Then thought of going independent and facing the likes of UMass and New Mexico State each year, home and away. All this plus $7 million a year and we get to watch games on ESPN+. If you ask me we gave up way to much to join the B1G. Now we are prisoners forced to watch teams like OSU and Michigan each year, stuck on our own dedicated channel that you need a tv to watch and doing this on an eventual budget of $60 million. We got screwed.

ESPN plus is great. Just hook up rabbit ears to your toaster in the northwestern corner of your house and you are good to go. Unless it is raining or snowing or cloudy or windy or night.
