Was the band banned?

It's a shame if this is true.
I have to say, one of the most enjoyable parts of last years game with Indiana was the pre-game drumline "drum off" in the Block R party area as well as the post game band "competition" on the field. both bands did a great job of playing together in the giant halftime show as well.

Assume it was cleared with Indiana AD beforehand? If so, then that is ridiculous. Hell, Penn State let us bring our full pep band to a women's bball game back in the late 80's on about a week's notice after we proposed making the trip to Coach Grentz directly.
To clarify, it was a pep band of about 15 enthusiastic members of the RU band in uniforms. They played at the alumni event and led in singing the alma mater. But Julie confirmed they were not allowed to play their instruments during the game.
I don't know why (but I can surmise), but they moved the alumni event from the Hoosier Village area (the equivalent of our Block R party area) to a remote location near the baseball field.

True. From my seats in Section 102 I only saw a few Band members sitting down lower in the section.
If this is in fact true then Rutgers has to return the favor. Not just to Indiana but to all with the same policy. I am not sure about the visiting schools Alma Mater policy, Rutgers band playing prior to kickoff, but most visiting school fans are surprised we do it. If this is a Rutgers thing this needs to stop as well. Reeks of the little brother syndrome.
I certainly hope this isn't just the latest example of somebody pissing on us and we just stand there a take it. THAT is terribly low. Indy just went from "one of us" to F em .
The Indiana band did play our Alma Mater before the game. It was homecoming for them, and they had a large alumni band there, so perhaps they were concerned over having three bands playing against each other. However we only brought about 15 band members, and we were tucked in the corner of the upper deck, a long way from both IU bands, so there was no good reason for this treatment. I also cannot understand why this wasn't known before our band members traveled to Bloomington. To our kid's credit, they stayed together near the rest of the Rutgers contingent, and pantomimed playing during the appropriate points. Revenge will be ours next year, no doubt. And we've now beaten their asses two years in a row.
Pretty sure most if not all B1G teams do that. When we traveled to Illinois back in 05 they played ours too and so did Nebraska last year

They stripped them of their instruments..... Not a big ten thing . The band was told by IU's AD that they couldn't play because it did not fit into the game day schedule. Julie apparently tried till the last minute but failed. Blame their AD and his ridicoulousness. Even IU's band members were mad about it our band kids said
This is so unsportsman like, I don't even have the right words. The school did not send them just to wear their uniforms in the stands (as cool as the new unis are). I would hope that there is some serious behind the scenes communications going on now. It is just plain disrepectful
That's the wrong attitude to take. Next year tell Indiana no. OSU was very accommodating to our band. Why should we be jerks to them when the have done nothing wrong.
Complete jerk move - B1G commish should step in and do something -very bad taste.
That's a pretty bush league move by IU if their band teamed up with ours for that nice military tribute halftime show last year.
I did a Tough Mudder on Saturday with one of the band members who didn't go. Had I known that RU even attempted to send a band contingent over there, I would have asked him about it.

Feel bad for the band that traveled, if they expected to play at the game and not just the tailgate.
I don't think banning other bands is worth it - having other schools bands adds to the game day experience for everyone. The combined band armed forces tribute at halftime was outstanding, as was the drum line stuff before the game last year.
Next year when we play their school song before the game, have the pep band break ranks and run over to play on kazoos, with the rest of the band silent. Maybe have everyone come in for the end.

I disagree that we should stop playing the visiting schools Alma Mater. I think it shows class. I also don't think we should prevent IU band from our stadium. There must have been a good reason for no instruments. Let's not respond tit-for-tat and bar them. The big ten is classy. Sounds like some kind of band war that would start in the AAC, you know between Houston and Memphis. We've got better company now.

I wasn't there but maybe they planned many homecoming presentations or awards during the TV timeouts. So the schedule could have been tight. We're in the big ten...I don't expect other schools to do things like this unless there was a very good reason. I think we should just drop it.

Every time we kicked a field goal the sign in the backround was flashing BRIGHT yellow. Very distracting. Seemed very clear to distract our kicker because the sign never flashed when Indiana kicked. Look a the replay. My guess it is legal BUT not very classy.
I highly doubt a 15-piece band would even think about factoring into homecoming ceremonies both pregame and halftime. They are just a pep band, they weren't going to play on the field, only the stands. Sounds like a BS reason to me. So glad we beat them in front of whatever crowd they had left at the end.

If all this is true maybe take the high road and not punish the IU band next year. Maybe just lose the IU AD's ticket and parking pass...
