Washington Grad Transfer Matthew Atewe to Pepperdine

This tells me at least one player from the five will transfer in the next five weeks.

You cannot roll with Shaq,Diallo, and this kid.

You need to let one go. I think one of those players would want to go.Just my opinion. Well see what happens.

It's not like last year where you are still waiting to see what you can get out of a kid.

Why? He would basically be replacing Gettys.

They scored 54 combined this year.
Rutgers needs a difference maker at center but right now a fill in for Gettys scoring around 5 points per game probably is the best to hope for. This is a transition year coming up with lots of uncertainty based on filling at least 2 scholarships.

He looks like a Sa clone. So much more athletic than CJ but CJ was massive and did have some post moves... so not sure if this is an upgrade and translate in better results.

I'd take this kid in a heartbeat. Power 5 conference experience is a major plus, and he would essentially replace Gettys.

We watched gettys play. To say he would replicate what Gettys did here is unknown.

You cannot put a value on how much Gettys meant to Pikiell. Gettys wanted to be here, he loves being a Knight. That kind of attitude is hard to find at a newly rebuilding program.

I am not saying Atewe could not be good here. I am just looking at the information that we have.

I'll just say going after him would be a very bad sign for what the staff thinks of Doorson and Diallo. Those 2 need minutes to develop. If Pikiell brings in Atewe the writing is on the wall.

I disagree, this would be a depth move. We brought in Gettys last year for depth and he blew away everyone's expectations for such a late pick up.

Gettys was not brought in as depth last year. Most knew the center position was in a poor place and Gettys would see the most minutes.

My assumption is that Diallo will be the next one to leave. No way the staff goes with three centers.

It will be Sa, Doorson, and possibly the next transfer.

Something tells me Sa will have a five and five season. The best thing Sa could do would be to stay in the paint, and not go anywhere else.

He is a player new to the game. Something tells me he improves quite a bit to be someone Pikiell will use for 22 minutes a game.

Gettys was brought in to start. Doorson and Diallo were both coming off of losing an entire year to foot surgery. Sa was a PF that you can use at center in a pinch.

Gettys was not brought on right away to play the 25 minutes a game that he ended up playing. He was certainly picked up for depth last season and earned his minutes in practice and early in the season

You thought Gettys would be behind Diallo, Doorson, and Sa?

He came from a tournament team. Gettys had more stats and more big ten potential than any player at the position last year. He was number 1, and Doorson was #2. Or at least that's what I thought.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see what happens. From people I have talked to, Atewe hustles but lacks skill. He was a backup on a poor team. Young could get five and five from him I am sure, though.

I'm not saying that he was coming here to sit behind those 3 guys. He came here and had to work for his minutes. Yes, he came from a tournament team, but he did not play a whole lot of minutes and wasn't that productive at UNCW.

I guess we can cross him off our list. Either way Pikiell will get us a guy even if it takes until August. I have much trust in him.

Looking gloom for us in the big man transfer market. Hoping we get a Gettys type guy; sooner than later.

No offense to the kid but why should we expect a guy who averaged 9 minutes on a 9-22 Washington team is going to be an improvement over what we have or worth taking minutes away from those players' development?
To be fair, Romar was a great recruiter but a lousy coach. Washington wasn't 9-22 because they lacked talent.

New6-9, 230.

Played in 19 games this year:
8.7 mpg
2.2 ppg
2.3 rpg

Played a handful of games at Auburn in 2013-14.

If this guy is better than Sa, Doorson and Diallo then we are really hurting on the front line. He was a hold the fort guy at best.

Hope we have better options out there, but I now wonder.

No doubt Gettys had several weaknesses but he picked the right school. He was more valuable to us than he would have been almost anywhere else. I get the feeling this kid could be a similar fit. I realize this is a highlight reel but this one, more than most I've seen, seems to suggest his minutes played should have been higher. I wonder what we are missing here.

We were so fortunate/lucky with Gettys last year. A decent 7 footer being available to RU is something that has a VERY SMALL chance of happening. Don't expect repeats in the future (at least not until program is built). VERY RARE!

Scangg Make your back yard a Rutgers bar. Nothing like eggs and beer at 9 AM watching RU 3000 miles away on a Saturday morning
You are a lucky guy.
