We just don't have the firepower

Corey can make a good pass and team doesn't finish. CJ played well the other day. But did anyone see the brick he shot from like two feet? The guy I was sitting next to could not believe he missed the rim from like two feet away.

I am sick of hearing that. I'll take my chances with other guys finishing close to the rim.

Go ahead and argue that kenpom's statistics are flawed. I will agree. He is rated the worst offensive player on Rutgers and just about the worst in the B1G. How many empty trips to the rim does it take for people and the coaching staff to realize it isn't working?

dispite you dissing arguably our best player
Freeman 11pts/5 REBS 2 assts 1 block 1 steal

Sanders was 2-10 & a booming 6pts.............much bigger problem

without Freeman we lose by 30pts

but please...continue the Freeman hate.....
The problem is that Freeman and Gettys got most of their points in the first half and the team only scored 59 points for the game. There is no consistency game to game other than the poor team shooting percentages.

Freeman
On offense....huge

Do you really think opponents would alter their defensive game plans all that much in Mike wore #2?

I think I know your answer and we agree to disagree.

Even though Mike shoots it at a 30% clip I still think defenses dont want him getting open looks. Mike like Ricky is a willing shooter.

Do you disagree that things might open up for Corey if once in awhile he passed at the end of a hard penetration? And the swarm of bodies has more to do with the knowledge that he wont pass vs. the lack of fear of who he might pass to?

We will have to agree to disagree

Most are missing something...

It is not ONLY the lack of 3 point shooting....it is that we do not have ANYONE who can hit a 3 from beyond the stripe

Shields, Coleman, Douby....those guys FORCED defenders to guard at 22-23 feet instead of at the three point line

The amount of space created by a legit deep threat is enormous...

So when you combine...the lack of three point shooting AND the lack of range of what we do shoot our 30% at.....we are very easy to pack in it against and have hedge and help defenders that extra 2-3 feet closer to the ball all of the way around...

We don't know how much Corey would pass....as he is needed to score high teens for us to have a chance to win.

I'm pretty confident about all of this...and my eyes are deceiving me the first time around when I have watch some of the games over on recording...

Those guys also got the green light.

We need to score at least a point per possession to win. Almost all teams do. With a lineup of 0 3 5 33 and CJG I don't think the scoring has to come from anyone in particular. 0 and 5 must make and take 3s with full blessing of the staff and the bigs need to finish.

Corey is to good off the dribble for it not to translate in more points.

When you watch the recording hit pause or slow motion on a Sanders hard penetration. Either CJ or DF are a bounce pass from a dunk OR we are 1 or 2 passes on the perimeter from a 3 point attempt.

Our guys don't shoot it well, I get it. I have to think, with full blessing of the staff, they can shoot it good enough to make defenses pay for "stacking the box" for Corey.

I am fairly confident the answer lies somewhere in between you and I.......a hair closer to me!

I think we can agree on this one. Corey has been off for the past few games, and things that seem obvious, don't seem obvious to him.

I have had issues since OOC ended. In the end it is the coaching staff that has given the stamp on the way he plays. By in large Corey's defense has been decent so I have no issues with him.

Corey was almost invisible from an offense standpoint versus Maryland. It is a sad thing to say.

He needs shooters around him. Sure, he can pass, but he is probably not confident itll get the job done.

As mentioned a lot, Baker is a different type of shooter. He might be able to contribute more than most people think.

Sanders has a lot of work to do. His ceiling is limitless. Offensively, his best move right now is a gymnast type drive. It is far from reliable. He has to get out of the studio, and stay in the gym.

Fantastic kid. I really hope he makes it work.

Sanders is the least of the problem. He has some holes in his game but he's the team's best player without question. Imagine if Sanders was running point for Kentucky. His efficient would go up, as would his assist.

If he was surrounded by shooters and offensive weapons he would look so much better. Hopefully Baker and 1 or 2 more offensive minded players can come on board

I can see Laurent leaving and opening up a roster spot for RU

Sanders is a phenomenal kid, who has battled and lived through the odds. BUT, right now, he has a ton of holes in his game. He can reach t he next level, but he has to work differently. Good point about Kentucky.

The problem is we usually have 2 people step up per game...
this game it was Gettys & Freeman(who BTW has almost DOUBLE 7 footer CJs rebounds stat wise)\William had 14pts but had almost HALF the teams turnovers (5)

Sanders may have as well stayed home
the sweet right hand drive he manages to MISS 50% of the time isnt a secret..he went 2-10(shot 20%)

We have NO bench,,
aside from Nigels booming 9 pts
Laurent
Omaruyi
Sa
Doorson
added 5pts COMBINED...

EVERYONE who entered the game for Md SCORED..all 10 players
their bench scored 36pts....almost HALF their scoring
5 guys 36pts....

OUR BENCH ...14pts
THEIR BENCH 36pts

Yea no rebuttal there mikefla. The thing is Rutgers is too easy to guard right now. And although the defense is respectable, it is not good enough to make up for the terrible offense. Hence you have a team that hangs around for a while in most games but can't score consistent enough to win.

I'm really surprised Laurent didn't improve from last season. He showed flashes last year. I thought he would come back as one of the most improved players on the roster but the opposite happened. I still think he should get more minutes than Thiam in the final game of the season and in the Big 10 tournament. Thiam gives them a shooting option on the court but like Mike Williams in his first 2 seasons, he's a shooter that isn't making any shots. But unlike Williams, he isn't providing much else therefore I'd bench him

Sa should get a shot to play big minutes again too. He was a plus in many games before hitting the wall in Big 10 play but I'd like to see him out there a little more in the final games of the season

Laurent this year and last year- two different offenses expecting different things. Thiam will come around, but he has to have a great off season as well.
