The best shooting talent we've had in years means what... they shoot above 25%? Good shooter s are generally much more consistent than our guys. This statement is a constant on this board and I totally agree, however, Baker, Thiam, Kiss, and now even Eugene are good shooters. This is the best shooting talent we’ve had in years. They just were horrible today.
My thought is I don’t think it’s a shooter that we are missing. We need a scorer that can get a bucket when you need one. A guy that can take over a game on any given night like a Powell. I thought Geo was that guy but he’s had a very rough stretch after the Miami game. We are one Powell caliber player away from being able to really break through and move up the standing in conference.

I think you’re 1-for-4. Kiss was a 27% shooter for 3s, and 40% from the floor, at Quinnipiac. He is not a shooter. Thiam has shown little ability to get his shot off against decent opposition. Baker is playing put of position and is losing his shot. Eugene is a decent shooter for his size. This statement is a constant on this board and I totally agree, however, Baker, Thiam, Kiss, and now even Eugene are good shooters. We need to get our shooters better shots. It doesn’t seem obvious enough as it’s going on 8 years since we’ve actually had one. Please recruit shooters. We have enough althletes who play basketball.

Fordham had one. So did Seton. And probably every team we face in the league. This season was lost the moment Sanders left. What Pike needs most is one signature recruit, a bonafide star. I'm not asking for LeBron. I'm asking for Sanders, Carter, Douby, Coleman. Without a player of that caliber, RU will have trouble ever cracking the .500 barrier.
we need to finish around the rim
Not sure what game you were watching but we didn't have that many good looks. Defense for SHU did a good job all game closing out on Baker, Kiss and Thiam. Most of our three's were taken with either a hand in our face or further out than we would have liked. In fact, most of our shots the whole game were forced. That's why we were shooting under 30% in the second half.Wrong. Nice try.
Against Seton Hall, we had many more good looks than they did. The difference was they hit their good looks and we didn’t.
I disagree. We missed tons of wide open looks. Powell was making shots with hands on his face. We just lack shooters. Not sure what game you were watching but we didn't have that many good looks. You aren’t getting better looks in D1 basketball than we got yesterday. They couldn’t make anything. We need to get our shooters better shots.
Why bother. You aren’t getting better looks in D1 basketball than we got yesterday. They couldn’t make anything.

I'd rather have a Douby or a Coleman. They could shoot. Sanders is typical of many RU guards over the years; an athletic player who can't shoot. You're not winning anything in today's game with players like that.Fordham had one. So did Seton. And probably every team we face in the league. This season was lost the moment Sanders left. Thaim needs to be consistently in low double figures for this team to have success. $$$$
I'd settle for someone who can make open shots. Not just a shooter, but an NBA first round draft pick type of shooter that can hit big shots in big situations. Players that can make a shot with a hand in the face when the game is on the line. That's the 1 missing player.
So it’s your position we have good shooters and their d was so stifling we couldn’t make any?Why bother.
It has yet to be proven that any of those players are good shooters. Truly good shooters make open shots. This statement is a constant on this board and I totally agree, however, Baker, Thiam, Kiss, and now even Eugene are good shooters. Most successful teams have more than one go to scorer and Rutgers has none. Its not just bad luck that Rutgers has come in last every season as a member of the B1G.That was my one dominant thought watching that game. What is that game like if SHU doesn't have Powell?
We're a good well-coached team that needs a bonafide offensive star. How many programs have such a star? I don't know.. but we'll beat those teams once we also have one.
I think that is highly doubtful. Barring the few elite programs.. how many teams really have 2 great scorers like Powell? I think we have some guys who can score.. we have the support that a top scorer can rely on.Most successful teams have more than one go to scorer and Rutgers has none. Its not just bad luck that Rutgers has come in last every season as a member of the B1G.
Last year Seton Hall had 3 other go to scorers which meant Powell was a complementary player receiving less playing time but still a scoring threat .I think that is highly doubtful. Barring the few elite programs.. how many teams really have 2 great scorers like Powell? I think we have some guys who can score.. we have the support that a top scorer can rely on.
-We're tall.. we have rebounders..
-We don't seem to have many issue bring the ball up..
-While we have problems with assists.. I think those problems are due largely to missing shots.. and playing defense hard so that there are fewer possessions.. we keep the score low, relatively speaking
What we don't have is a guy like Powell who can just GO OFF and change the game.
Suppose you switched Powell and Baker? Who wins? Rutgers does. This is not to detract from Baker.. he's good.. we need him but we do not have a Powell.
Last year Powell played 22 minutes and scored 5 points against us.. this year he played 37 minutes and scored 28.
Maybe somebody on our current roster can match that next year.
BTW.. Powell was a 4-star recruit from Trenton. 81st in ESPN's top 100.
We need to start pulling in an ESPN Top 100 here and there.
We say this every year. A lot of this is talent too.we need to finish around the rim
